Tignanello was the first Sangiovese to be aged in barriques, the first contemporary red wine blended with untraditional varieties (specifically Cabernet) and one of the first red wines in the Chianti Classico region that didn’t use white grapes. Tignanello is a milestone. It’s produced with a selection of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.

The nose starts salty and umami, then turns peppery, then finally finishes with the sweetness of black cherries and blackberries. On the palate, the fruit elements flourish, while the sweet and sour of balsamic vinegar and resurgent pepper on the finish maintain the complexity. Acid glitters around supple tannins.

Brunello is the prince of Montalcino wines, produced exclusively from Sangiovese grapes picked by hand from the oldest vines in the farm.

After a careful fermentation at controlled temperature, Tenuta Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino is aged in French oak barrels.

This “entry level” wine of Ornellaia is a bright, lively wine that will introduce any wine drinker to the beauties of Ornellaia wines as it is instantly drinkable, enjoyable, and versatile. Made with (mostly) Merlot with the addition of Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese, there is an abundance of cherry, strawberry, tobacco and spice aromas and flavours. Priced for instant consumption but can also be aged and held until 2030.

Cold soaked prior to fermentation to extract color and aromatics. Spontaneous fermentation over the course of two weeks in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation occurred naturally in cement tanks. The nose is broad and complex, yet clean and fresh, with classic hints of red fruit mixed with notes of aromatic herbs and spices. In the mouth, the wine is broad, robust, and savory, with silky tannins and a long, fresh finish.

Frescobaldi Nipozzano Chianti Rufina Riserva is a red wine produced by Marchesi de' Frescobaldi winery located in Tuscany, Italy. The wine is made using a blend of Sangiovese, Malvasia Nera, and Colorino grapes, which are grown in the vineyards surrounding the winery. The wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks and aged in French oak barrels for 24 months, followed by bottle aging for an additional 3 months. On the nose, the wine exhibits aromas of black cherry, ripe plum, and a hint of spice. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, with firm tannins and a good balance of acidity. Flavors of dark fruit, leather, and a hint of tobacco are present. This wine is a great pairing with roasted meats, pasta dishes, and aged cheeses.

From the Bolgheri DOC, the Poggio Al Tesoro is owned by the Allegrini family of Valpolicella fame. Named after the Seggio river that crosses the vineyard, it is a blend of 50% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Petit Verdot. The nose exhibits lovely fresh, crunchy fruit, enriched with mineral and spicy notes. The palate is medium bodied with hints of red berries and elegant silky tannins. A great wine for the price point!

This is a red wine from the Tuscany region of Italy. The wine is made primarily from the Sangiovese grape variety, which is the traditional grape of Chianti. The Gran Selezione designation is the highest level for Chianti wines, indicating that the wine has been made from the best grapes grown on the estate and aged for a minimum of 30 months. Located in Montalcino, these Super-Tuscan wines from Luce (Light) are named for the altitude and southern exposure of their vineyards. Cool, breezy nights preserve the aromatic complexities of the grape and make for slow, even ripening. The Lucente is made primarily from Merlot with the addition of Sangiovese. Intense and bright red, the nose opens with intense fruity hints of blackberry, plum and currant, enriched by toasted and vanilla nuances. On the palate it is full and enveloping, soft and elegant, with a persistent finish that displays a pleasantly sweet and fruity aftertaste.

Like all famous Bordeaux Chateaux, Super- Tuscans can also lay claim to a “second wine” of their more famous elder sibling. This proud “second vin” to Ornellaia is made from the same grape varieties, under the same sky and always using the same philosophy. Made with 44% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Cabernet Franc, 13% Petit Verdot, the  vintage delivers an aromatic expression of ripe red fruit; smooth and round with an easy to drink elegance, yet still with the ability to age. Pale pink in appearance, as the forefront crisp berry, wild strawberry and redcurrant, then notes of citrus and pink grapefruit deliver freshness and lift, there is an earthy minerality that leads to a long finish, Miraly is an elegant yet intriguing rose

Casa Raia was purchased in 2006 by Frenchman Pierre Jean Monnoyer who restored the old vineyards and began producing natural wines with three labels, the "supertuscan" Bevilo, a Sangiovese Rose and this Brunello di Montalcino. Made with 100% Sangiovese (as required by law) this ageable beauty is elegant with a nose of cherry, cinnamon, thyme and hints of pencil shavings and earth. Certainly one of the best "natural" wines out there.

Although 2017 was not a vintage for the ages, excellent winemakers will still create beautiful wines from hand selected grapes. Jessica Pellegrini is a minimalist, using indigenous yeast and "hands-off" winemaking. Like the 2015, it is true to the Sangiovese variety with an expressive nose of cherry, fresh Italian herbs, and tomato leaf. Serve with tomato based pasta dishes like Bolognese or Lasagne.

This wine is made from a blend of Sangiovese and small amounts of complementary grape varieties, all of which are handpicked and undergo a fermentation and maceration process.

Crafted exclusively in exceptional vintages, Solana emerges from a terroir renowned for its unparalleled microclimate and soil composition, situated at an elevation of 500-600 meters above sea level. Born from a blend of Sangiovese, Merlot, and Syrah grapes propagated through mass selection, Solana embodies a harmonious fusion of tradition and innovation. The grapes are meticulously hand-harvested at optimal ripeness, undergoing a 40-day maceration period. Following an initial decantation, the wine undergoes refinement in stainless steel tanks before transitioning to first-pass oak barrels, known as "heart selection," representing the pinnacle of wood quality. Aging in barrels extends for 12 months, culminating in bottle refinement until reaching peak maturity. In the glass, Solana reveals an intense red hue with purple undertones. The aroma exudes elegance, characterized by persistent mineral, balsamic, floral, and fruity nuances, including jam and blackberry, intertwined with spicy and cocoa notes from wood aging. On the palate, it offers a broad yet balanced profile, supported by well-integrated acidity and pronounced flavors of prune, vanilla, and chocolate. Little is known about this tiny family winery, but the wines are spectacular and true to Sangiovese from Montalcino. With only 7ha purchased in 2000, winemaker Jessica Pellegrini is a rising star in the area making elegant wines that are organic. The 2015 vintage was excellent and with lovely cherry nib, balsamic and tomato leaf, it is a wine for the ages that you will want to drink again and again.

Here, the best grapes of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Sangiovese, and 10% Cabernet Franc make this aromatic, complex wine with notes of raspberries and mulberries with additional, distinct notes of coffee beans, chocolate, and licorice. The palate is well-balanced and structured with spicy undertones that give way to an exceptionally long. This wine is only produced in exceptional vintages.

Cala Civetta Ciliegiolo DOC is a red wine made from 100% Ciliegiolo grapes grown in the Maremma subregion of Tuscany, Italy. The wine has a bright ruby-red colour with violet hues and a complex aroma of red fruits, cherries, and violets. The palate is medium-bodied with soft tannins and a good balance between acidity and alcohol. This wine is an excellent representation of the Ciliegiolo grape, which is becoming increasingly popular in Tuscany.

The Tuscany Verruzzo di Monteverro was born in vineyards located in the Grosseto municipality of Capalbio, in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma.

It is produced with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese grapes, harvested exclusively by hand between the first ten days of September and the first of October. The vinification takes place entirely "by fall", so as not to deplete and allow the highest expression in the glass. Subsequently the wine ages for 12 months in French oak barrels before being bottled.

It has a bright garnet red colour with purple nails. The nose opens with floral aromas of rose and lavender, enriched with fruity notes of plum and wild strawberries. On the palate it is structured, soft and with character, with hints of rose, strawberry and melon.

Ideal in combination with lasagna and first courses with lamb ragù, this red wine is perfect to accompany medium-aged cheeses.

This IGT Toscana Bianco white wine from Tuscany, Italy, blends Malvasia Bianca, Trebbiano, and Chardonnay from the I Colli Estate, located in Monteriggioni and Vagliagli, part of the Bindi Sergardi family’s historic estate, founded in the late 1400s. With a white paper color and golden reflections, it offers an intense bouquet of peach, melon, and pear. On the palate, it’s fresh, savoury, and well-balanced with good acidity, fermented and aged in stainless steel to maintain its vibrant character.

Another little gem from the oldest family winery in Italy. Since 1141, Ricasoli has been producing wines of great character and quality. Made from 95% Sangiovese and 5% Colorino, the wine is aged for 9 months in used tonneaux.

The nose begins with floral and fruity notes, gradually transitioning to umami with hints of balsamic vinegar and tar, blending with violets, roses, figs, and plums. The palate combines juiciness and earthiness, with gritty, almost sandy tannins enhancing the earthy profile.

Exhibiting pure elegance, Potazzine Rosso di Montalcino unfurls gradually, initially presenting notes of red plum and dusty rose. With some gentle coaxing, it reveals violet florals, cedar, and crushed stone aromas that come to the forefront. The palate is captivated by a dynamic blend of succulent wild berries and contrasting saline mineral undertones, all complemented by a refreshing acidity. A lingering interplay of citrus and cranberry adds a delightful tension, leaving a pleasant pinch on the cheeks and enticing the taste buds for more, while gentle fine tannins slowly emerge, providing a delicate coating. This wine is truly stunning, but it is advisable to decant it or cellar it for the next five to eight years to fully appreciate its beauty.

The Ricasoli Ceniprimo Chianti Classico is a red wine made from Sangiovese grapes grown in the Chianti Classico region of Tuscany, Italy. It has a deep ruby color and aromas of ripe red fruit, black cherry, and a hint of spice. On the palate, it is full-bodied with a balanced acidity and tannins, and flavors of cherry, plum, and a touch of vanilla. The finish is long and persistent, with a pleasant aftertaste of fruit and spice. This wine is perfect to pair with grilled meats, pasta dishes, and aged cheeses.

La Palazzetta Visconti is located on the south-east side of Montalcino, farming 20 ha organically. Mild winters, hot summers and humid springs and autumns help to create bright coloured, fragrant wines with juicy acidity. This little Rosso is the perfect quaffer with notes of violet, cherry, and plum. The tannins are ripe and soft, leading into a long finish.

"Solo Sole" means "only sun" in Italian and the grape Vermentino loves the sun soaked coast of Bolgheri in Tuscany and it embodies the colours, fragrances and flavours of these lands that lie so close to the sea. Notes of peach and apricot are accompanied by zesty acidity and that ever present Vermentino saline tang.

The Colpetrone Antica Chiusina Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is a full-bodied red wine that offers intense aromas of dark fruit, leather, and spice. On the palate, it is rich and complex with flavors of black cherry, blackberry, and plum, as well as notes of tobacco and oak. The tannins are firm yet well integrated, providing structure and balance to the wine. This is a wine that can be enjoyed now, but will also age beautifully over the next several years.
