Deep, dark ruby-red is not quite opaque. The nose is classic for Lafite, with meaty notes to the dark fruit complimenting cedary oak. The aromas are deep & brooding. Cassis & dark fruit on the palate is overlaid by coffee notes & plentiful cedar. There is excellent freshness. There is a good concentration of deep, dark fruit supported by fine tannins. Alcohol is balanced & the finish is long. This is a nice classic example of Lafite.

Chateau Lafite Rothschild (Pauillac) – there’s no denying that no matter what vintage, the name of Rothschild will carry the weight and cachet for selling itself, not to mention scoring very high. Cassis, raspberry coulis, and blackberry dominate on a palate of crisp tannins, enormous structure and concentration. Always give this time to age to allow the wine to come into itself. Drink from 2027- 2045. 

This wine is beautifully structured and well-balanced in a classic style, with surprising body and sparkle. The initial firmness evolves into a rounded, creamy texture, complemented by a subtle sweet and sour note of pink grapefruit!

Since 1694, Benanti is synonymous with quality and represents a profound respect for Etna and the wine in produces. Grapes grown on the slope from north to southwest are at altitudes of 450-1050 meters above sea level. Benanti is the only winery that has vineyards located on every slope of the DOC Etna. The Dafara Galluzza vineyard is located on the prestigious north slope of Etna, at 750 metres asl, it is extremely suited to growing Nerello Mascalese. The nose is fine, heady, spicy, with measures of red fruit. The palate is chewy and intense, yet vibrant and surprisingly light on its feet. Sour cherry mingles with wood, chocolate and earth, then a lingering spicy finish.

As so often with Lafite, it is power that marks this wine. That, and density of texture. The additional element in this vintage, and at this stage of the wine's development, is a dominant wood element. The vanilla and tannins from the wood match well with the concentrated tannins of the fruit, which is dark, dense and tight. This is a wine for long-term aging: in 15 years this will have superb richness.

One of the wines of the vintage, the 2000 has barely budged in its evolution since it was bottled and released in 2002. After ten years in bottle, it still reveals a dense opaque purple color along with a potentially sensational bouquet of blueberries, black currants, graphite, asphalt and background oak. Extremely powerful, full-bodied and superbly concentrated with good acidity and high but round tannins, this massive La Mission-Haut-Brion should take its place among this estate's most hallowed vintages when it hits full maturity in another one to two decades. I was surprised by just how youthful this wine tasted at age 12. If tasted blind, I would have guessed it to be around 4 to 5 years old. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2050.

The wine is fresh, bright, vibrant, lifted, and floral on the palate. The wine is elevated, refined, soft, and silky, with a refreshing, silky edge to the fruits in the finish. The wine is pure elegance. There is nothing between you and the fruits. There is intensity, length, and a striking sense of purity. The wine lingers seamlessly for 60 seconds or longer..

With a deep, dark, rich hue, the wine pops from the glass with its smoky essence made even better by its layers of black currants, black plums, tar, herbs, cigar box, and tobacco accents. The palate is full-bodied, powerful, rich, intense, mouth-filling, and long. Everything is in balance, meshing power with precision, purity, freshness, length, and complexity. This is a wine of delicacy and finesse, with notes of berries, earth and oak in a silken texture.

Composed of 56% Merlot, 37.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 6.5% Cabernet Franc, the 2016 Haut-Brion is deep garnet in color. The nose beings with simple licorice notes before slowly unfurling to deliver growing scents of creme de cassis, plum preserves, dark chocolate, and lilacs, followed by suggestions of crushed rocks, tar, black truffles and cardamom. The full-bodied palate is a tightly coiled spring, taut with black fruit preserves and earthy layers and framed by very firm, grainy tannins, delivering a burst of freshness to carry the long, long, long finish. This will need a good 7-10 more years to fully blossom, and it will be well worth the wait.

The official champagne of James Bond since 1979, Champagne Bollinger is ready to commemorate the 40th anniversary of their partnership with a special limited edition release. The release pays homage to Moonraker, the film on which the Bond and Bollinger partnership began. The bubbly is packaged in a Moonraker inspired space shuttle box made from pewter and wood veneer that holds a Saint Louis crystal ice bucket and a magnum of Champagne Bollinger 2007. Only 407 were made, each of which arrives numbered and was crafted and finished by hand.

Brisk deep purple, this is a solid multi-textured wine with depth of flavour and a certain darkness to it but it remains superbly balanced in tannins and acidity. An extremely perfumed and exotic wine.

Terrano is one of the few red grapes of the Carso region, and much rarer than its Tazzelenghe or Schioppettino counterparts. Yet, the quality is unmistakable as the grape expresses the terroir very well. In fact, the grape name means “red earth” due to the soil it’s grown in. There is a certain Barbera-like quality to the crunchy, earth-tinged red fruits and the bright, zingy acidity of the wine, yet there is more finesse and purity. Fresh herbs and red licorice on the palate add complexity, and the concentration is surprising given its exceedingly modest alcohol level, typically never exceeding 12.5% alcohol. A unique wine, but well suited to the North American palate. 

The Prulke is a white wine that is a blend of 60% Sauvignon, 20% Vitovska, 20% Malvasia Istriana, the last two native grapes of the region. The name Prulke refers to the land where the grapes are grown; directly below Prepotto, the town where Zidarich was born and the location of the winery.

Benjamin Zidarich was born and raised in the Carso area of Friuli Venezia-Giulia. The land is in his blood and his great passion for his home translates into making wines that reflect the terroir. The Prulke is a white wine that is a blend of 60% Sauvignon, 20% Vitovska, 20% Malvasia Istriana, the last two native grapes of the region. The name Prulke refers to the land where the grapes are grown; directly below Prepotto, the town where Zidarich was born and the location of the winery.  The wine is a medium-bodied light orange wine with saltiness and minerality, but also with a bit of oily, silky texture and more expressed citrus and herbal aromas.

Unwinding in the glass with deep aromas of wild berries, vine smoke, orange rind, exotic spices and violets, framed by a deft application of classy new oak, the 2019 Ausone is full-bodied, rich and concentrated, with beautiful purity of fruit, lively acids and ripe but abundant structuring tannins. Deep, layered and vibrant, it's full of potential and will likely emerge as one of the most long-lived 2019s. This is another magical wine from what many consider to be Saint-Émilion's greatest terroir, and it will demand and richly reward patience.
