Gewϋrztraminer

Gewϋrztraminer is an aromatic grape variety with a pink skin color. It is a white wine grape variety. The variety has high natural sugar therefore it produces wines with high alcohol and usually off dry. Lychee aromas is one of the Gewϋrztraminer’s tell tales aromas in a blind tasting. Dry Gewϋrztraminer wines may also have aromas of grapefruit, rose petal, ginger and a smoky aroma.

 Gewϋrztraminer performs best in cooler climates. The grape originated in Germany but over several hundreds of years it’s completely circumscribed the Alps including France, Hungary, Slovenia, Italy, Romania and Croatia. Gewϋrztraminer is one of the four noble grape varieties that make Alsace Grand Cru wines. Top quality Alsatian Gewϋrztraminer wines called ‘Vendange Tardive’ (late harvest) are age-worthy dessert wines with mineral, spice and smoke notes.
