In 2011, Daniele Delaini, Villa Calicantus’s owner, decided to quit a “not bad job” in a bank in Paris to dedicate himself completely to a small vineyard his aunt Teresa gave him years before. Villa Calicantus is the smallest winery of the Bardolino wine area on the top of one of the highest hills of the Bardolino Classico area, 2 km away from Lago di Garda. They produce between 4000 and 7000 bottles per year, depending on the weather of the year. Villa Calicantus has produced organically since 2011 and with biodynamic agriculture since 2014. Villa Calicantus is dedicated to obtaining wines with elegance, finesse and complexity, authentic expressions of the Bardolino and Lago di Garda.

Avresir comes from the oldest vines from the highest part of the hill around the villa. Because there is no Riserva category in Bardolino, Daniele uses Avresir, Riserva spelled backwards. Corvina, Rondinella, Molinara and Sangiovese are co-fermented in the same percentages that they are grown in the vineyard. The influence of the lake

Youthful straw colour with a vivid mousseux. Youthful nose, some gently toasted notes, crushed nuts, brioche, citrus, lime and lemongrass. Pure and vinous style with good purity and precision, a gentle creaminess, bright acidity and layers of fresh stone fruit with some autolytic complexity, and a long and lingering finish. Bouquet: On the first nose, the wine reveals white flower aromas (honeysuckle, lilac), citrus notes, as well as fresh butter and cream. After airing, as it is getting warmer, this Champagne exhales another spectrum of aromas. The wine reveals spicy notes of ginger, and lemongrass, which were unsuspected until then.

Flavour: The beautiful quality of the acidity (present throughout the tasting) is especially remarkable. The frank vinosity of the wine (roundness and alcohol) gives an impression of strength and freshness. The wine appears both broad yet tight. These various sensations produce a pure, creamy and silky-textured wine. The finish is clean, slightly mineral and long. The last aroma is the grapefruit. The impression will be remembered as a harmonious, healthy and vibrant wine.

Vineland Estates Semi-Dry Riesling VQA typically showcases a vibrant profile with notes of citrus, stone fruit, and a hint of sweetness, balanced by a refreshing acidity. Expect flavors of lemon-lime zest, ripe peach, and green apple, alongside subtle mineral notes. The wine's acidity keeps it from tasting overly sweet, making it a versatile food pairing option.

The Vinum Cellars Red Dirt Red begins with a pleasing aroma of red cherry, cranberry and baking spice. The wine tastes of plum and cherry and features lots of earthy, meaty and mineral notes along with touches of balsamic and black olive plus more baking spice. Smoky, almost mesquite like notes lead into the long dry finish. With plenty of complexity and lots of layers to discover, this is an excellent choice. The addition of Petite Sirah (which actually originated in the Rhone but isn't grown there today) works quite well with the GSM.

La Palazzetta Visconti is located on the south-east side of Montalcino, farming 20 ha organically. Mild winters, hot summers and humid springs and autumns help to create bright coloured, fragrant wines with juicy acidity. This little Rosso is the perfect quaffer with notes of violet, cherry, and plum. The tannins are ripe and soft, leading into a long finish.

A dessert liqueur made from the juiciest cherries, carefully harvested from the farms surrounding Castel Mimi. Each cherry undergoes a meticulous selection process before the fruits are infused with sugar and alcohol, a process that lasts 8 months.
