This bottling shows a rustic, Old World-leaning style, beginning with aromas of leather, herb-coated and gamy meats, and crushed berries. The palate combines a similar herb and dried-meat component.

Very intense ruby red color, the nose reveals intense and clean scents of very ripe cherry, black cherry, wild berries followed by fresh and slightly spicy tones. In the mouth it is dry and soft at the same time, enveloping and of great balance thanks to the excellent balance between acidity and tannins. The whole tasting is embellished with a very pleasant tannic texture, which fades towards a finish of excellent persistence, with light hints of red fruit.

The nose showcases a spectrum of umami aromas, from soil to astringent fruit to balsamic, stone and wild herbs. Once upon a time, Carmín de Peumo was your typical ripe and beefy Carmenère, but not here. This offering, harvested in late May (the equivalent of November in the Northern Hemisphere), deals tomato leaf, currant, cranberry and dried-herb aromas in front of a racy palate that's medium in weight. Spicy, leafy red-fruit flavors are oaky and come with notes of cocoa and coffee, while a dry and snappy finish is lean by previously set Carmenère standards.

Light orangy colour. Very pure nose of red berry fruits accented by ripe raspberry. The palate is fleshy, fresh and vinous with more of the same red berry fruits coupled with a citrus tone. A delightful pour.

Earthy aromas include herbal notes, a hint of tomato sauce, asphalt and dusty berry fruits. This has a raw tannic exterior but is softer in the middle. Flavors of saucy, herbal plum and blackberry come with notes of tobacco and olive, while this is drawing and gritty on the finish, with a roasted quality.

Made from the producer's estate Monument Ridge, blocks that rise from 400 to 2,400 feet, this balanced, elegant wine is refined and savory, with classic structure. Crushed rock, mountain sage, pine and dusty tannin support a core of juicy currant and cassis. Virginie Boone

Reminiscent of salted caramel popcorn, also spicy herbs such as thyme and tarragon combined with subtle smoky notes. Palate with some allspice and dried flowers, summer hay but also caramel. medium length

A deep, dark red-black color is almost opaque with a purple rim. Juicy black-cherry aromas are overlaid by vanilla, spices, ginger & orange peel with high-toned raisin & attractive clean cedar notes. After the nose, the palate is muted at first. Fine, velvety tannins gives good bite & a concentrated bitter licorice nature to the dark-fruit. On the mid-palate cedary oak overlays juicy black-cherry fruit. A long elegant finish has exotic warm spices.

Colour: deep cherry, garnet rim. Nose: powerful, mineral, characterful, scrubland. Palate: good structure, round, balsamic, long.

Combining Malbec, Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Cabernet Sauvignon and pinches of Petit Verdot and Carignan, this is a rich and densely packed red that is supple on the palate in integrated tannin. Dark plum, vanilla, cherry cola and toasted oak give it a crowd-pleasing approachability. Virginie Boone
