The SL Malvasia IGT Emilia Spumante Dolce is a delightful sparkling sweet wine. Its bright straw yellow color and fine, persistent bubbles make for a beautiful visual experience. The aroma, typical of Malvasia, is intense and opens up with floral notes, peach, and apricot.

The 2016 Barbaresco Manzola is a brilliant wine. Freshly cut flowers, sweet red berries, mint, chalk and white pepper all pulse through the 2016. A Barbaresco of energy and tension, the 2016 is a bit nervous in feel, and yet it also has terrific depth, not to mention exceptional balance. The 2016 is one of the finest Manzolas I can remember tasting. In this range, the Manzola is distinguished by its saline minerality and drive.

This forward Barbera has aromas of black plum and macerated cherries punctuated by intense floral and gamy notes. The palate is concentrated with a deep core of black hue fruits with fresh herbs, violets finishing with bright acidity, fine tannins and a hint of sea salt.

Campania's favourite winemaker, Mastroberardino's entry level white is a blend of four native varieties: Coda di Volpe, Greco, Fiano and Falanghina. The nose recalls fresh flowers, pineapple, peach and citrus fruits, while on the palate, good freshness with balanced acidity and notes of citrus and exotic fruit.

Arnaldo Rivera was a local primary school teacher, mayor of his village for 36 years, and founder in 1958 of the Terre del Barolo winery, which still today is the only direct cooperative wine cellar in the entire supply chain in the Barolo production area. Verduno might be one of the 12 communes allowed to put ‘Barolo’ on the label, yet besides the great grape Nebbiolo, they are famous for the native Pelaverga grape, which you can find most locals drinking in caffes.

Rustic and slightly opaque on the nose, it is expertly worked to give complexity in addition to the floral matrix. Hints of wet geraniums, hot stone and ginseng root set the main scene. Medium body, soft little extracted tannins and vibrant acidity from the midpalate onward. Drink now.

The Aldegheri family has been in operation since 1956. Love for nature and extreme attention to the vineyards whilst keeping to traditions of the regions, yet not afraid to use modern technology, the family strives to improve day after day. Now in the 2 nd generation, they are proving to be around for a very long time to come. The Pietramara follows all the same principles of Amarone, yet at a fraction of the price.

This wine presents marked aromas of cherry and marasca cherry, which stand out in its complex bouquet, creating a pleasurable first impact. This is followed by the perfect harmony of its full, robust body. While the color, bouquet, and intensity of flavor suggest a wine suitable for aging, its fruitiness, roundness, and overall harmony make it highly enjoyable for immediate drinking as well.

Tobacco, leather and dark-spice aromas take center stage along with a pretty whiff of violet. The full-bodied, rounded palate shows dried cherry, licorice and ground clove while fine-grained tannins lend polished support. Drink 2021–2027. Kerin O’Keefe

The 2020 Masseto now sees new DNA with a touch of Cabernet Franc added to this celebrated Merlot-based icon wine. This is a vintage of enormous richness and density, and everything about the wine is taken up a notch or two (including the bottle glass weight and the 15% alcohol content). But Axel Heinz and his team are well prepared for the hot vintages like 2020, and changes to farming and canopy management ensure even ripening. This wine is always hard to analyze in its youth. It needs many more years to soften and flesh out. Give it time.

It's dark and vibrant on the palate, with perfect ripeness of tannins and an amazingly refreshing finish.

Giusti Augusto Recantina is a red wine produced by Giusti Wine winery located in Veneto, Italy. The wine is made using 100% Recantina grapes, which are grown in the vineyards surrounding the winery. Recantina is an indigenous grape variety of Veneto, known for its intense color, tannins, and high acidity. The wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks and aged in French oak barrels for 12 months, followed by bottle aging for an additional 6 months. On the nose, the wine exhibits aromas of blackberry, blueberry, and a hint of vanilla. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, with firm tannins and a good balance of acidity. Terrano is one of the few red grapes of the Carso region, and much rarer than its Tazzelenghe or Schioppettino counterparts. Yet, the quality is unmistakable as the grape expresses the terroir very well. In fact, the grape name means “red earth” due to the soil it’s grown in. There is a certain Barbera-like quality to the crunchy, earth-tinged red fruits and the bright, zingy acidity of the wine, yet there is more finesse and purity. Fresh herbs and red licorice on the palate add complexity, and the concentration is surprising given its exceedingly modest alcohol level, typically never exceeding 12.5% alcohol. A unique wine, but well suited to the North American palate. 

Friuli-Venezia Giulia is one of the smallest regions in Italy, yet also one of the mightiest. With a plethora of indigenous grape varieties not grown outside of the region, and even fewer producers that are embracing them, Zidarich is truly one of the best.

There are many “malvasia” named grapes within Italy, with some more quality than others. One of the best Malvasia grapes is Istriana, grown in the Friuli region as well as neighbouring Slovenia. Benjamin Zidarich practices biodynamic viticulture, picking grapes and bottling wine according to the phases of the moon. He will tell you that the grapes are grown by the sun and the earth, and the wine is grown by the moon.  The nose has notes of white peaches, oriental mixed spices, mineral, and stony notes. Maceration on the skins will give the wine slight tannins that overlay crunchy stone fruits, savoury herbs, and crushed stony minerality. 

The Prulke is a white wine that is a blend of 60% Sauvignon, 20% Vitovska, 20% Malvasia Istriana, the last two native grapes of the region. The name Prulke refers to the land where the grapes are grown; directly below Prepotto, the town where Zidarich was born and the location of the winery.

Benjamin Zidarich was born and raised in the Carso area of Friuli Venezia-Giulia. The land is in his blood and his great passion for his home translates into making wines that reflect the terroir. The Prulke is a white wine that is a blend of 60% Sauvignon, 20% Vitovska, 20% Malvasia Istriana, the last two native grapes of the region. The name Prulke refers to the land where the grapes are grown; directly below Prepotto, the town where Zidarich was born and the location of the winery.  The wine is a medium-bodied light orange wine with saltiness and minerality, but also with a bit of oily, silky texture and more expressed citrus and herbal aromas.

The Gropello group of grapes features mostly Gropello Gentile and definitely the wine of the Lombardia side of Lake Garda and the Riviera del Garda DOC. This elegant wine features a strong, spicy note with strawberry and ripe fruit. On the palate it is sweet and balanced with a hint of savouriness.

Grignolino is a light-coloured tannic grape variety from the Monferrato region of Piemonte, where quality grape varieties grow in abundance. Always a nose of dried flowers, berry jam, pepper and cloves. Extremely high tannins, yet classy with a bold personality!

The Giuseppe Cortese Barbaresco Riserva "Rabajà" is a premium wine made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes grown in the Rabajà cru in the Barbaresco subregion of Piedmont. It is aged for a minimum of 36 months in oak barrels and then further refined in the bottle before release. The wine has a deep ruby red color and aromas of ripe red fruits, violet, spices, and tobacco. On the palate, it is full-bodied, with firm tannins and a long, persistent finish. This wine has received critical acclaim for its complexity, elegance, and aging potential. The Magnum size bottle is ideal for aging and for special occasions.

Vini Franchetti 20th Anni Special Edition 2019 is a red wine produced by Vini Franchetti, a winery located on the slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily, Italy. This wine is made from a blend of the native grape varieties Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio, grown in the high-altitude vineyards of Etna. The grapes are fermented with native yeasts and aged for 14 months in oak barrels, resulting in a wine with intense aromas of dark fruit, spice, and tobacco. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, with flavors of black cherry, blackcurrant, and hints of earthiness. The tannins are firm and well-structured, giving the wine a long and satisfying finish.
