Bold and beautiful, this powerful Zin has a deep, dark color that's practically black but with a brilliant ruby rim. Brooding aromas suggest wood smoke, black pepper and boysenberry. There is an impressive density in texture, as firm tannins and acidity support the rich array of flavors.

Jalapeno, steely minerals, clay, and hard salty cheese are unique and alluring aromas. In the mouth the flavors are high toned with plenty of grassy herbs, cool cucumber, and tart yellow raspberry. A dried papaya finish is floral and pretty.

The wine is quite reserved on the nose to start, but with a decant it opens up nicely. The wine has aromas of red-cherry preserve, ripe plum, clove, anise and cinnamon. This wine is 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Syrah and 8% Petit Verdot coming from Summit View, Candy Mountain and Dionysus Vineyards. Appealing aromas of freshly brewed coffee, dark cherry and barrel spice lead to full bodied flavors, where fruit and barrel intertwine. A long finish caps it off. Blanc de Noirs, white Champagne only from red grapes, produces wines with some weight, as here. It makes for a rich, full-blooded Champagne, packed with red fruits while also cut through with intense acidity. The fruitiness gains shape from a zesty texture.

Taste: Bright and lively with flavors of red berries, citrus, and a hint of brioche.
Palate: Crisp and refreshing with a delicate mousse and a long, elegant finish.

This no-nonsense wine offers good red- and black-cherry flavors on a nicely firm texture and is well balanced for pairing with a variety of meats and other protein-rich dishes.
