The nose is striking with its floral hints of violet and rose accompanied by red fruits such as raspberries and sweet spices. In the mouth, the wine is balanced and elegant with an almost creamy texture supported by silky and well-integrated tannins. Spicy notes accompany the persistent finish.

One of the wines of the vintage, the 2000 has barely budged in its evolution since it was bottled and released in 2002. After ten years in bottle, it still reveals a dense opaque purple color along with a potentially sensational bouquet of blueberries, black currants, graphite, asphalt and background oak. Extremely powerful, full-bodied and superbly concentrated with good acidity and high but round tannins, this massive La Mission-Haut-Brion should take its place among this estate's most hallowed vintages when it hits full maturity in another one to two decades. I was surprised by just how youthful this wine tasted at age 12. If tasted blind, I would have guessed it to be around 4 to 5 years old. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2050.

Contention as one of the top vintages produced here, the wine is strong on its floral characteristics. Once past the opening bouquet of white flowers and dried roses, you find plums, black cherries, black raspberries, mint and cigar wrapper nuances. The palate provides a lush, opulent, vibrant, energetic backdrop for its wealth of deep red fruits and oceanic influences. The finish has a touch of salty chalk that adds complexity to its wealth of silky, ripe, red fruits.

The 2020 Pichon-Longueville Baron is a blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon and 24% Merlot aging for an estimated 18 months in French oak barrels, 70% new. The production of the grand vin represents 48% of the harvest this year. Opaque purple-black in colour, it comes bounding out of the glass with exuberant notions of blackberry pie, preserved plums and crème de cassis, plus suggestions of Chinese five spice, chocolate mint, graphite and cedar chest with a touch of violets. The medium-bodied palate is built like a brick house, featuring firm, ripe, grainy tannins and bold freshness to support the taut, muscular black fruits, finishing long and spicy.

Chocolate shavings and smoked coffee bean on the nose, it's a vintage where you can't get away from the tannins, but here they have sinew and juice, like the best translation of the tannins in the year. This has a real purity of fruit (very low SO2 addition at Palmer) and the gourmet touch you want in Alter Ego. 45% of overall production. 3.73pH. Survived mildew better than in 2018 because of my experience in dealing with the conditions. August 15 to 29 for the harvest.

Francois Mikulski was born to a Burgundian mother and a Polish father. He spent many summers in Burgundy falling in love with the vineyards and the lifestyle. This certainly and easy going Pinot Noir that expresses notes of blueberries, cherris, plums with spice notes. Hints of mint with those red fruit notes on the palate offers charm and adds to the soft tannins. These are cult wines that you want to get your hands on.

Casa Raia has 4.5ha of vineyards, ranging from 44 years old to new. Certified organic, the phases of the moon are followed to the letter to create biodiversity. All harvesting is done by hand and clusters are inspected carefully before destemmed. The Bevilo is a blend of mostly Sangiovese with small percentages of Canaiolo, Cabernet Franc and Merlot all co-fermented. Beautifully balanced with red cherry, raspberry, and hints of earth and savoury balsamic, it's smooth tannins finish easy and long. A rare find.

The Chateau Malescasse is located between Margaux and Saint Julien at the highest point in the Medoc and has a long, proud history dating back to 1824. Now completely refurbished, with modernizations in the winery, the 40ha plot is managed as a Grand Cru. The 2016 has a blend of 53% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 9% Petit Verdot. Well- balanced and full bodied with a powerful nose of cassis, blackberry, cedar, and floral notes. The palate is fleshy and full, with a long round finish. An excellent Bordeaux at an amazing price point.

The Ricasoli Ceniprimo Chianti Classico is a red wine made from Sangiovese grapes grown in the Chianti Classico region of Tuscany, Italy. It has a deep ruby color and aromas of ripe red fruit, black cherry, and a hint of spice. On the palate, it is full-bodied with a balanced acidity and tannins, and flavors of cherry, plum, and a touch of vanilla. Intense purple colour, hints in the scent of red fruit and spices one of which, black pepper, stands out. In the mouth it is pleasant tasting, mineral, nervous with intense and characteristic tannins.

The Boscaini family of MASI fame rediscovered the rare Oseleta grape, grown in the area of Valpolicella as a perfect grape to blend with the other Amarone grapes. With its extra pip and high skin to juice ratio, it provides a tannic edge to the blend. Unique as a monovarietal, MASI is the only winery to have a 100% Oseleta. The Osar is deep red in colour, clean and complex with hints of blueberries, blackberries and
fresh-cut greenery. The extreme tannins are well balanced with the acidity and alcohol.

La Palazzetta Visconti is located on the south-east side of Montalcino, farming 20 ha organically. Mild winters, hot summers and humid springs and autumns help to create bright coloured, fragrant wines with juicy acidity. This little Rosso is the perfect quaffer with notes of violet, cherry, and plum. The tannins are ripe and soft, leading into a long finish.

Nestled between Priorat and Monsant, the Cellar de Capcanes offers quality Catalan winemaking. Originally established as a co-operative in the 1930s when five families got together to vinify all the wine of this Priorat-area village, the Celler de Capcanes drew the attention of the wine world in the early nineties when they started to produce premium Kosher wines for the Jewish community in Barcelona. Danimi Votiva Campi Taurasini DOC is a red wine produced by Danimi winery in the Campania region of Italy. A Votiva is an offering to the gods. The figurine depicted on the bottles of Votiva are inspired by similar objects found in the heart of Irpinia where the ancients worshipped the Goddess Mefite and made offerings to appease her. This is the 'cru' line that represents the strength of the Irpinian territory and identity. Made from 100% Aglianico, the wine is a complex mix of floral and fruity notes such as violets and wild red berries along with spicy notes that recall scent of tobacco and leather. Full-bodied, thick and rich, if you left this on your counter for 4 days, it would still drink like a boss! Full of blackberry, dried plums, floral, roasted coffee, leather and spice, it's complex!

Teroldego is the most important red grape of Trentino in Northern Italy. Dark coloured and concentrated, this is a fruity wine, yet softly tannic and Albertans would love it! Try this as an alternative to Cabernet Sauvignon.

Arpepe Sassella Stella Retica  is a red wine with a ruby red color. It has a complex aroma with notes of red fruit, such as cherries and raspberries, and hints of spices, such as cloves and cinnamon. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, with a good structure and balance, and firm tannins. The wine has flavors of red fruit, with a hint of earthiness, and a long and persistent finish. Barbacan Sforzato 2018 is a red wine from the Valtellina subregion of Lombardy, Italy. San Rocco exudes great power and austerity, with an incredible aging potential. A pure complexity and strong character, this wine is monumental.

Wine Enthusiast: Plum and berry aromas are rough and gritty like hot asphalt, while this Malbec is earthy and hints at barnyard animal hide on the nose. It was formerly called "Les serpentines" after the name of a species of snake that could often be seen in the summer on the hot and stony Burgundy lands. Made with 100% Pinot Noir, the wine has a complex bouquet of dark fruit, including black cherry, blackberry, and plum, with hints of earth, spice, and leather. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and velvety, with rich flavors of black fruit with a backbone of firm tannins with a long, lingering finish.

Overall, Champerrrier is a well-crafted red wine that showcases the unique characteristics of the Pinot Noir grape and the terroir of Gevrey-Chambertin. The nose is spicier than that of Pommard, with notes of cloves and peppers that intertwine with nuances of wild berries. The fruit emerges gradually from aeration. The flavour corresponds to the aromas: the wine is nicely full-bodied, with a grain of crunchy tannin and a frank vitality, it is the energy of Volnay that speaks and the wine is both built and lifted: molto vivace, as the musicians - it will give the right tempo to the best roast poultry.
