They produce wines of purity and elegance, with much softer tannins than the nebbiolos of Langhe. Like all traditionally-made nebbiolo, delicate aromas and light colour are but appearance. These are wines of great complexity, depth and density. The single vineyard of Osso San Grato has south facing exposure. With only 5500 bottles produced per year, the nose is intense with furity notes of black cherry, dried roses, violets and distinct notes of tar. The palate is full-bodied and intense with persisten tannis that are sweet and velvety.

The single vineyard of San Francesco has a south-west facing exposure with 3000-3500 bottles produced per year, the nose has intense, fruity notes of ripe plum, black sour cherry and sweet spices. The palate is smooth, delicate and well-balanced.

Chateau Haut-Brion is the only first growth outside the Medoc in the Graves region, acquired in 1935 by Clarence Dillon. It is also the only winer to be both First Growth from the 1855 classification and Classified Growth of the Graves. This was the first of three estates acquired by the Dillon family, and is the oldest winegrowing property in the region. The 2016 is a red wine blend made from 56% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, and 37% Cabernet Sauvignon. Black currants, violets and plums that is full-bodied and juicy on the palate with rich tannin and structure.

From the tiny appellation of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, 13 grapes are allowed in the blend, yet with grenache, syrah and mourvedre dominant. The Domaine de Cristia is a typical blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Mourvedre with a brooding, intense deep colour. The bouquet is an elegant mix of black currant, blackberries, violets, deli meats and hints of leather and pepper. The palate is well balanced with fine-grained tannins and a long, powerful finish. This wine will cellar well for the next 10-15 years.

" Another strong effort, the 2005 Barolo Riserva 10 Anni Fossati Case Nere offers an intriguing interplay of power and sensuality. Dark red stone fruits, menthol, sage and licorice open up, but with considerable aeration. The aromatics are beguiling, while there is quite a bit of depth to the fruit, all of which adds up to a satisfying if reticent Barolo that should be cellared for another year or two, or given a at least a few hours of air."

The history of Smith Haut-Lafitte dates back to the 14th century, when George Smith, a Scottish wine merchant, acquired the property in the mid-18th century, giving it his name. After changing hands again in 1958, it was in 1990 that the Cathiard couple fell in love with the Chateau, purchased, and spent the next three years renovating the estate. Their constant philosophy is to make the best possible wine from each vintage to showcase the magnificent terroir. 2011 is a bit of a surprise here following the epic vintages of 2009 2010, but this is equally brilliant. The red wine blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot shows a big nose of cassis, licorice and oak, while the palate has silky and elegant tannins with a juicy texture. This is ready to drink now, but will age another 5-10 years.

Meursault is the centre of the four communes (Meursault, Blagny, Chassagne and Puligny) comprising that part of the Côte de Beaune known as the "Côte des Blancs", named for the quality and predominance of its white wines. Grown exclusively to Chardonnay, the soils here are chalky and white marl, resulting in wines with bright acidity. This wine also rests on the lees for texture and body. Aromas of brioche, hazelnut and spice anda medium body and supple texture that carry into a persistent finish.

Almaviva 2023 is an exceptional, high-scoring Chilean red blend (74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Carménère, 5% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot) from Puente Alto, offering remarkable freshness and elegance despite a hot, dry vintage. It features intense ruby color, notes of cassis and tobacco, silky tannins, and a long finish.

Bright wine with a beautiful deep garnet color and several purple highlights. Good aromatic intensity, the nose is fine and fresh. It opens on aromas of violet and red berries which make up a bouquet of typical expression. Well delineated on the palate and well rounded, highly concentrated. The length is accompanied by soft tannins.

Clos de Vougeot is located in the heart of the Côte de Nuits between Chambolle-Musigny and Vosne-Romanée. It represents an area of 49.86 ha, at an altitude varying between 240 and 255 meters above sea level. Founded in 1110 by the Abbaye of Citeaux, Clos de Vougeot is the ideal image of Burgundy, rich with a terroir worthy of art. To the north of the Côte de Beaune, the Montagne de Corton brings together the villages of Aloxe-Corton, Pernand-Vergelesses and Ladoix-Serrigny. The vineyards lie between 250 and 330 meters above sea level, forming an amphitheatre unlike any other on the Côte. Corton Grand Cru is produced mainly in red over 90 ha, and may bear the name of its climat, of which there are 25, such as Les Perrieres, Les Combes, Clos des Meix, Les Bressandes, Le Rognet, Les Renardes, Le Clos du Roi, etc.

Beautiful garnet colour. Aromatic, with sophisticated notes of spice. Some extracts of red fruit such as blackcurrant or cherry on floral notes of violet. On the palate, the attack is fresh and mineral with aromas of a well-balanced fruit. The wine is vibrant.

The 2020 Masseto now sees new DNA with a touch of Cabernet Franc added to this celebrated Merlot-based icon wine. This is a vintage of enormous richness and density, and everything about the wine is taken up a notch or two (including the bottle glass weight and the 15% alcohol content). But Axel Heinz and his team are well prepared for the hot vintages like 2020, and changes to farming and canopy management ensure even ripening. This wine is always hard to analyze in its youth. It needs many more years to soften and flesh out. Give it time.

The 2022 Marchesi Antinori Solaia is an intense, full-bodied Tuscan red with a deep ruby color and purple hues. It features complex aromas of blackcurrant, plum, blackberry, and cocoa, with elegant notes of cedar and tobacco.
