Ths Saint-Amour Esprit de Séduction (the most northern Cru) displays an intriguing deep-ruby colour. The palate is round and balanced with seductive and aromatic black berries. A beautiful bouquet of fruit with complimentary spices.

The Fournaise vineyard of the Cote de Brouilly is located on the steepest hill of the Cru, where all the work has to be done manually, normally in very hot temperatures. The hill has an elevation of 480 m and is totally covered by 60-year old vines. The roots have to work hard to break through the blue volcanic rock. The resulting wine is powerful and it needs time to reveal its depth and minerality. The palate is full with an amazing concentration and an outstanding, complex finish.

This red shows a mild concentration of menthol, tobacco and ripe red cherry on the nose. The medium-bodied palate is more generous in nature, with pleasantly plump berry fruit studded with herbs, all balanced by bright acidity and hefty tannins. Alexander Peartree

The 2021 Les Pagodes de Cos is a strong effort, offering up aromas of cassis, charcoal, dark berries and cigar wrapper, followed by a medium to full-bodied, sweet and fleshy palate that's quite rich and extracted, concluding with a saline finish. It's a blend of 60% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. 2025 - 2035

Offering up aromas of cassis, minty blackberries, lilac and pencil shavings, the 2021 Haut-Batailley is medium to full-bodied, supple and polished, with a succulent core of fruit and delicately chalky tannins. For many years, significant parts of this property were left unplanted, but as of 2022, all 41 hectares are now under vine; so, there'll be more of this Pauillac—with its new, more modern style—to go around. The 2021 Giscours has turned out beautifully, wafting from the glass with aromas of dark berries and licorice mingled with hints of violet and forest floor. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and suave, it's seamless and enveloping, with good depth at the core, beautifully polished tannins and a long, perfumed finish. This is one of the real successes of the vintage. As readers may remember, it's a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot. Drink 2027-2045.

Soft tannins deliver a very pleasant and well-balanced wine of structure and elegance, ending with persistent notes of ripe black fruits. Founded in 1942 by Désiré Rolet, Domaine Rolet stands as an iconic producer of Jura wines. Managed by Désiré’s children Eliane, Bernard, Guy, and Pierre, the estate expanded its vineyards across four Jura appellations - Arbois, Château-Chalon, Côtes du Jura, and Etoile. Since 2018, the winery has been under the direction of Cédric Ducoté. The estate's 65 hectares of vineyards predominantly grow Chardonnay, Savagnin, Poulsard, Trousseau, and Pinot Noir grapes, all harvested by hand for their production. This particular wine has benefited from several years of bottle aging, displaying a slightly evolved character. Its color is a light garnet red at the core, fading into a brickish tinge at the rim. Aromas of wild blackcurrant, kirsch, forest floor, tobacco, and mushroom dominate the nose. The wine's fine tannins and dried sour cherry flavors are well-balanced by its prominent acidity, leading to an earthy and light finish.

Winemaker Steve Doerner, renowned for his work at Calera and Cristom, introduces Luke Jefferson, a new wine project named in homage to his son and Thomas Jefferson. Produced in minuscule quantities, it reflects Steve's personal vision apart from Cristom's style, with his spouse Irene also involved. This Pinot offers intoxicating notes of ripe raspberry, bright cherries, and fragrant spices, promising further development with five years of aging.

Precise and biting showing notes of currants, raspberries, wild strawberries, blackberries and dried cherries. Medium bodied, tannins slightly rigid at the moment and a juicy, slender finale of a dynamic nature.

Extremely fascinating and polehydric in the primary profile alternating notes of red prunes, currants, coriander, white pepper, bergamot and green mandarin. A lot of lime describes the very fresh secondary scene. Medium bodied, perfectly extracted tannins and a finale with a graceful, subtle closure. Wow!

Deep violet-red to the eye, this wine has aromas of black cherry, blackberry preserves and a hint of mint. Fruit of the wood flavors are joined by notes of freshly ground espresso, dark chocolate and touches of eucalyptus and orange zest. Opulent tannins make their way across the palate and linger for a while.

Brilliant, shimmering ruby red. On the nose wild berries, rose hips, subtle leather, saffron, reverberating on earthy tones. The palate is exciting and has a creamy touch, showing warm-hearted fruit, with fine harmony, tight tannin on the finish, with drive.

Red blends of this type rarely shine as brightly. This ultra concentrated and smooth-textured blend including Merlot, Petite Sirah and Malbec is inky dark in color, luxurious aromatic of blueberries, blackcurrants and mint followed by oak spices and dark chocolate on the palate. Creamy in texture, it is laden in massive but melted tannins.

The fruit for this comes from the first site in Washington to plant Syrah back in 1986. The aromas are fruit forward, with notes of ripe blackberry, black cherry and other black fruit, speckled with spice. Ripe, saturated dark-fruit flavors follow. Coffee notes linger on the finish. The Sori della Sorba Langhe Nebbiolo offers an enticing nose filled with aromas of ripe red cherries, dried roses, and hints of tobacco. The Orin Swift Machete, with its formidable 16.1% alcohol by volume, is a bold and intensely flavorful red wine blend that makes a striking impression. This wine is renowned for its deep, inky purple color and a powerful, complex bouquet that marries ripe dark fruits like blackberry and plum with layers of vanilla, toasted oak, and peppery spices. On the palate, it unfolds with a lush, full-bodied texture, offering concentrated flavors of dark cherries, blueberries, and black currants, accented by hints of licorice, mocha, and a subtle smokiness. The high alcohol content is well integrated, providing warmth without overpowering the wine's rich fruit character and velvety tannins. Machete's bold profile and rich complexity make it an excellent pairing with hearty dishes, such as grilled meats or robust cheeses, and it's a standout choice for those who appreciate wines with depth, intensity, and a touch of daring.

The color is a deep, dark, opaque black-purple. Aromas are of graphite, dark-plum & rich licorice. The palate is fresh with a concentrated licorice fruit. Then fine tannins have a slight greenish bite that is mouth-watering rather than particularly astringent. The mid-palate is medium to full bodied, dense, extracted & fairly subdued, with tary touches. The finish is long & structured but shows plenty of juicy cassis fruit.

Deep, dark, ruby red color. Open, dark fruit aromas with vivid blackcurrant &well integrated oak. The fruit on the palate is fresh, rounded red-fruit. with tobacco leaf notes. Mid-weighty with fine, supple tannins that give good grip on the finish. Alcohol & acids were were balanced an the finish is long.

Slightly developed ruby red color. Fresh nose of crushed berries, red currant and dry wood. The palate has medium weight and high extract a bit on the austere side with firm tannin, high acidity and light fruit, medium long finish.

The Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru La Toppe au Vert presents vivid red cherries and black plums on the nose, displaying focus alongside refinement and poise. With time in the glass, blue fruits emerge, adding depth to the aroma profile. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with fine tannins, initially displaying a subtle ferrous character. There's a fine grip in the mouth, with chalky tannins on the finish that provide a long and satisfying conclusion.

Plush and softly textured, this modern expression of Brunello boasts generous tones of black fruit, cherry, tobacco, leather and cola with smooth, silky tannins. You could age this wine many more years, or drink it sooner thanks to the inherent softness here.

Named after the Roman emperor who restored vine planting in France, this wine has structure and a dense texture. It is balanced with a good freshness to it and a poise in its step.

The nose is a light lunch on a rocky beach, where the dusty stones contrast with the sanguinity of bresaola and the richness of sweet chili jam. The jam spreads onto the palate, but the meatiness doesn't go anywhere either, before a crackle of black pepper sets up a lingering finish.

One of the original producers that grows Trebbiano Abruzzese, one of the few quality grapes of the Trebbiano group. There is not much of this exported and even fewer bottles of the Montepulciano. Francesco Valentini and his son are the only humans allowed in the cellar as Francesco never wants to introduce foreign microbes or yeasts to interfere with the ageing of the wine. These are some of the most ageable white wines in the world and in fact, could be considered “unicorns” as they are hard to find here in Canada.  Truly collectible.

Located in Loreto Aprutino in the province of Pescara, the Valentini winery boasts of a centuries-old winemaking tradition. Francesco Paolo Valentini is a more than well-known figure in the wine world. The winery covers 65 hectares of vineyards dedicated to the production of Trebbiano, Montepulciano and Cerasuolo d' Abruzzo. Annual production is around 50,000 bottles. It is not possible to identify the production method as Organic or Biodynamic since the approach in the vineyard is unique and artisanal. Montepulciano is a powerful and impetuous wine. It is characteristic of bewitching with its important body and intriguing bouqet of aromas.

This Sangiovese wine brings out the grape's most profound spectrum of aromas. The selection process begins directly in the vineyard, where only the finest bunches are chosen. These are then subjected to an extended drying process and meticulous vinification, resulting in a Sangiovese that is rich, bold, and brimming with flavors.
