Vivacious, bright, yellow citrus, lime, green apple, tangerine, and honeysuckle notes are there for the taking on the nose and palate. In 2021, the vines of Cos d’Estournel Blanc yielded a graceful wine that is rich and finely structured, thanks in part to their ongoing ability to delve deeper in the estate’s soils but also thanks to the breezes of the nearby Gironde Estuary and the ongoing efforts of the estate’s teams. The Sauvignon Blanc grapes are concentrated but balanced by the natural vivacity of their terroir, while the Sémillon —whose distinct mineral character derives from the limestone in the vineyard’s soils– are once again used in a larger proportion in the final blend. Extremely complex, Cos d’Estournel Blanc 2021 is a magnificent, harmonious expression of white peach, rose, bergamot, lemon, and flint. Remarkable energy accompanies a rich, precise palette of aromas, resulting in an accomplished, fascinating wine with great cellaring potential.

The Château Cos Labory 2016 offers a vibrant and balanced experience, described by critics as "bold, racy, and flamboyant". It showcases red-toned fruit with notes of bright red cherry, blood orange, spice, and wild flowers, along with aromas of cassis, plums, and herbs. The palate is medium-bodied, elegant, and fresh, with fine-grained tannins. The finish is long and persistent, leaving a lasting impression.

Chateau d'Armailhac showcases all of the hallmarks of its big brother, Chateau Mouton Rothschild, which is right next door. This is seriously juicy. Succulent ripe fruits dominate the palate, with a cool and racy undertone. The wine is ripe, showing flair and full of gravitas. Aged in 50 percent new and 50 percent old oak from Mouton itself, it has a creamy, fulfilling character. This is a wine which will certainly benefit from spending a few years in the cellar. This could be a treat and might just be a bargain too.

Blackberries and black currants define the nose, palate, and character of this classy Pauillac. The wine offers vibrancy, chewy textures, and nuances of mint, tobacco leaf, cedar, peppery spices, and tobacco wrapper. Classic, classy, refined, and with ample layers of sweet, lush, dark fruits with the tannins to age, this will drink well early, yet it will also evolve quite well.

The 2021 d'Armailhac has turned out beautifully, bursting with attractive aromas of minty cassis and blackberries mingled with notions of pencil shavings and sweet pipe tobacco. Medium to full-bodied, ample and polished, it's supple and seamless, with a fleshy core of fruit and a licorice-inflected finish. En primeur, I compared this to a modern-day version of the estate's immensely charming 1999, and anyone who remembers the 1999 will find that the 2021 delivers just as wide a drinking window. The 2021 Château d'Aussières (Corbières) is a premium red wine from the Domaine d'Aussières estate, managed by Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite). The 2021 vintage is characterized as a "fresh" year due to challenging weather conditions (frost and low rainfall), resulting in a refined wine with vibrant fruit.

" I loved the 2016 Château d'Issan and this is a certainly a wine to seek out. Made from a blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon and 36% Merlot from yields of 55 hectoliters per hectare, aged 18 months in 50% new oak, it has a beautiful perfume of blue fruits (cassis, blueberries, etc.) as well as hints of graphite, subtle oak, and charcoal. Medium to full-bodied, with integrated acidity, a terrific mid-palate, and perfect balance, it needs 4-5 years of bottle age and is going to cruise in good cellars for 20-25 years or more. Ornamented and richer this year than 2021, but there is so much charm and harmony. Long and spicy, with a hint of petrol at the end. Wow. The second most concentrated Yquem after 1945, according to the winemaker. About 160 grams of residual sugar. So approachable now, but better in five or six years. It will live forever."

Embodying an iconic legacy, Chateau De Fieuzal Blanc 2020 offers silky tannins interwoven with flavors of blackberry, tobacco, and graphite —an exceptional wine that captures the soul of its vineyard with every sip.

Located in the heart of the Graves, the Chateau is named after the family it belonged to until 1851. Now owned by the Quinn family, although more famous for minerally driven Bordeaux white blends, their red wines are also excellent. The current winemaker is a big believer in translation of terroir: he wants all the wines to have a sense of place. The 2014 Fieuzal is a red blend made with 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc for a ripe and fruity wine with herbal and earthy nuances, underpinned with firm, yet refined tannins and well-balanced acidity. Exellent potential for ageing.

Philippe and Valerie Bassereau (4th generation) have been managing the Chateau de la Graves estate since 1990 in one of the more unknown appellations of Bordeaux: Cotes de Bourg (on the right bank opposite of Margaux). Here they specialize in the ancient Colombard grape, blended with Semillon for the white wines, and Merlot dominated reds. The Ybert family has owned the Château for over four generations, maintaining their Grand Cru classification since 1987 through a commitment to outstanding quality and craftsmanship. This 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc AOC Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Red boasts a deep ruby red color with purple and dense notes. It exudes delicate aromas of sweet spices, toasted notes, and intense black fruits. On the palate, it is rich and complex, generously full of fresh fruit aromas with silky tannins that lend it great finesse. The finish is sweet and leaves a memory of an elegant, tender, harmonious, and pleasantly outstanding wine, which can be enjoyed young but will benefit from aging for 8 to 10 years if stored correctly in a temperature-controlled environment.

Mineral yet textured. Solid buttery fruit with a white grapefruit touch note and faint mineral note. Lovely, classically-styled Meursault that shows a very fine balance between freshness and body. An east facing clay-limestone vineyard just below Genevrières.

This has the typical structure of a Saint-Estèphe, fleshed out with ripe black fruits. There is fine juicy acidity and rich tannins. An impressive opulence gives this wine good potential.

Gigondas legend Louis Barruol purchases grapes from the Gard to produce this 100% Syrah Côtes-du-Rhône bottling. Plump and generous in mouthfeel, it's an undeniably southern, sun-drenched expression of Syrah but with a cutting mineral freshness and salty tang on the finish. Soft tannins and hints of bramble and cut stone rim flavors of rich, ruddy black-cherry and plum preserves. Best enjoyed young.

This wine is light in colour, featuring spicy, floral, cherry, and licorice aromas. It opens with a dry, savoury attack with sour cherry, smoky, peppery, and celery salt notes, complemented by soft and round tannins. The personal secretary of King Louis XIV, Phelippeau de Pontchartrain, acquired these hunting estates located near the forests of the Royal Abbey of Fontevraud and with excellent land for vineyards.
The domain recently celebrated its 350th anniversary and is reinforced with modern facilities that allow them to diversify the methods of winemaking and enhance this magnificent terroir.

The grapes are placed in temperature-controlled vats for a cold maceration of two to four days, then a controlled fermentation. The intensity of the ventilation and the choice of temperatures are made according to the vintage to seek harmony, fruit and elegance while having texture and volume upon tasting.

Dark ruby. Slight funk on the nose, but ripe red fruit and spice permeates. Intense flavours of ripe red Cherry, raspberry, strawberry, lemon salt, cinnamon, nutmeg. Dry, medium bodied. Good acidity and low, soft tannins. ABV 13.5%. Juicy, fruity, and fresh. Natural wine that has rusticity.

A third growth in the 1855 Classification, Chateau Desmirail is located in the Margaux appellation on the left bank of Bordeaux. The name of this Chateau is unique as the property does not bear the name of its original owner, Marguerite Rauzan du Ribail, but rather that of her husband, Jean-Baptiste Desmirail. It is also one of the few chateaux with an ancient "Medocain" system - a gravity operated vat room that is still well-preserved. The red blend consists of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot and this 2014 is attractive and ready to drink now.
