Chateau Malescot Saint Exupery 2016

Margaux, Bordeaux, France

Red Wine

The Chateau Malescot St. Exupery is a 3rd growth of Margaux that sits right next to Chateau Margaux- one of the 5-first growths of Bordeaux. This exceptional terroir goes all the way back to 1697 when it was owned by the Escousses family. In the 1800's the property was handed to Jean-Baptiste Saint-Exupery enriching the name of the Chateau with HIS name. By June, 1955 the estate had only 7 ha of vines and the Zuger family began to restore the grounds and the castle. 30ha of the property are dedicated to the vines where the varieties of cabernet sauvignon, merlot, cabernet franc and petit verdot are grown. This is one of the most well-priced wines of Bordeaux and always well regarded, garnering high scores from critics. The 2016 vintage is comprised of 55% cabernet, 37% merlot and the 8% balance is cabernet franc and petit verdot. The wine scored high with typical notes of black currant, cedar, earth, tobacco and mocha around a backbone of fine tannins, and fresh acidity with a lengthy finish and great depth of character. Drink now to 2036

Red Wine

Blend: 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot, and 2% Cabernet Franc
Drinking Window: 1990-2030

91 Points - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate
"In weight and texture, the 1981 Margaux is closest in style to the 1979. It is an outstanding wine, even in the company of the monumental wines of 1982, 1983, and 1986, although it does not have the power and weight of these vintages. It is still very dark ruby/purple‑colored. The aromatics suggest ripe cassis fruit, spicy vanillin oakiness, and violets. On the palate, the wine is medium‑bodied, concentrated, tannic, and extremely long. It is just beginning to open and evolve. Anticipated maturity: now–2015”

Chateau Margaux 1986

Margaux,Bordeaux,France

Red Wine

1986 is an astonishing vintage; its very slow development in a way reminds us of the previous generation's wines. Its tannic structure is very tight-knit, very dense and softens only very slightly from year to year. The bouquet is starting to open up; however, we feel that it is still only showing a limited part of its enormous potential. It is full and rich on the palate, still a little bit firm. Should we drink it?. A great vintage, but which seems to belong to another, older era.

Margaux, Bordeaux, France

"Violet and iris aromatics curling out of the glass, starting to reach their full expression at 20 years old. Beautifully finessed and elegant, with hints of black truffle, cloves and rich blackberry fruits, this is a vintage that showcases the best of Margaux. It took its time to reach this point but it has been worth the wait, and the wine just gets better and better over a few hours in the glass. Highlights the success of the partnership between owner Corinne Mentzelopoulos and director Paul Pontantallier, with this château delivering some of the most memorable wines of the turn of the century years in Bordeaux. 2009 is perhaps the greatest young Château Margaux we have tasted over the last 30 years. The 2009 Château Margaux is an unparalleled vintage in its tannic power and fullness (reminding us of 2005) and its softness (reminiscent of 1990). And since its alcoholic degree is barely over 13, its finish remains fresh, flavoursome and of astonishing length. When to drink it? This is a question that is difficult to answer as it already gives so much pleasure, but with such enormous potential.

Chateau Margaux 2019

Margaux, Bordeaux, France

Red Wine

Chateau Margaux is one of the prestigious first growths, and the only one from the Margaux appellation of the left bank of Bordeaux. In existence since 1500, the Ginestet family acquired the property about 1950, then purchased by the Mentzelopoulos in 1977 who still runs it to this day. The Chateau Margaux red blend is an assemblage of 90% Cabernet Sasuvignon, 7% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. A brilliant Bordeaux according to critics boasting powerful aromas of blackcurrants, sweet tobacco, spices, violets and pencil shavings. The palate is elegant, yet complex and compelling. This vintage scored a perfect 100 points from several critics; one of several vintages of the decade to have scored this high. This will age for decades.

95 Points - Robert Parker
"The 2021 Château Margaux saw a traditional élevage in new barrels, with bottling in July, and as readers will remember, it's a blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot that benefited from late picking, appreciable percentages of saignée, and a strict selection. Unwinding in the glass with aromas of cassis, blueberries and raspberries mingled with hints of licorice, white flowers and charcoal, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, with a broad attack, lively purity and sweet structuring tannins, concluding with a long, penetrating finish. It's a classic that will richly reward bottle age."

Drawn from the Paradis cellars at the Château de Montifaud, this Cognac was the first to personally be distilled Louis Vallet (4th generation), which today stands as a proud family treasure and trophy of the longstanding legacy each of the family's generations beholds. After aging in a combination of red oak and ancient Cognac barrels, this bottle is now a blend of cognacs ranging from 30 to 80 years old, which is then averaged out as 50 years, allowing them to continue to produce this special celebration of their art year after year.

88 Points - Jean-Marc Quarin
"Little year in Bordeaux. The Merlot sank and, in general, the wines are a little bony and lacking in flesh. Here the color is good. The nose evokes dead leaves, a vegetal note then, then an animal note. It should be decanted to get rid of a strong smell of reduction. On the palate, the body is medium, but the tannin tasty and still fruity, but the flesh is lacking. An honorable 84 in the context of the year.”

Château Mouton Rothschild 1991

Red Wine

Blend: 74% Cabernet Franc 8% Merlot 18%
Drinking Window: 1997-2031

86 Points - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate
"The 1991 exhibits a moderately dark ruby/purple color, as well as a promising and complex nose of such classic Pauillac aromas as lead pencil, roasted nuts, and ripe cassis. The initial richness is quickly obliterated by frightful levels of tannin, and a tough, hard finish. Although there is an interesting and alluring dimension to this wine, the tannin level is excessively high and the wine is likely to dry out after 10-15 years of cellaring. Readers who admire austere, fruitless wines will rate it higher.”

"The 1992 Mouton has fashioned a flattering, soft, opulently-styled wine with medium body, a healthy dark ruby/purple color, and a big, fragrant nose of jammy cassis, smoky oak, and roasted herbs and nuts. The wine offers a sweet, expansive mid-palate and a lush, velvety-textured finish. It is an ostentatious, flashy Mouton for drinking over the next 10-12 years.”

90 Points - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate
"This beautifully made wine could be considered a sleeper of the vintage. The wine boasts a dark purple color, followed by a sweet, pain grille, roasted nut, and cassis-scented bouquet that is just beginning to open. In the mouth, the wine may not possesses the body and volume of a vintage such as 1990 or 1989, but there is more richness of fruit, a sweet, ripe, purness to the wine, as well as medium body and outstanding balance. This moderately tannic, well-focused, surprisingly rich 1993 is capable of 15-20 years of evolution. Anticipated maturity : 2004-2015.”

95 Points - Robert Parker
"Bottled in June, 1997, this profound Mouton is more accessible than the more muscular 1996. A blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 19% Merlot, it reveals an opaque purple color, and reluctant aromas of cassis, truffles, coffee, licorice, and spice. In the mouth, the wine is "great stuff," with superb density, a full-bodied personality, rich mid-palate, and a layered, profound finish that lasts for 40+ seconds. There is outstanding purity and high tannin, but my instincts suggest this wine is lower in acidity and slightly fleshier than the brawnier, bigger 1996. Both are great efforts from Mouton-Rothschild."
