Famille Picard's Puligny-Montrachet 5 Chemin du Chateau Chassagne-Montrachet 2018 is a classic expression of this world-renowned white wine from Burgundy, France. The wine is made entirely from Chardonnay grapes grown in the vineyards surrounding the Château de Chassagne-Montrachet. It is a rich and complex wine with notes of citrus, apple, pear, and honey, along with a subtle minerality that is typical of Puligny-Montrachet. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied with a creamy texture and a long, elegant finish. This wine can be enjoyed now or aged for up to a decade.

Roland Piollot and Dominique Moreau are Champagne Piollot, a family Estate in the Aube dating to the late 19th Century. The couple are also responsible for the Champagnes of Marie Courtin. Dominique’s family vineyards make Marie Courtin, Roland’s family vineyards make Champagne Piollot. Roland, fifth generation grower, was joined by his daughter Jeanne in 2018.
Although Pinot Meunier is widely planted in the Marne Valley, it is relatively rare in the Aube. Only a mere 6% of the Piollot family vineyards are planted to Pinot Meunier, but they decided to highlight this grape with the Mepetit vineyard in Polisot starting in 2015. Aging in oak barrels gives this wine a uniquely complex texture and profile that is not to be missed. The wine is aged on the lees for four years before release, and like all of the Champagnes from Piollot, it’s disgorged non-dosé.

The palate is medium-bodied with ripe, saturated tannins and again, here, I find the new oak more pronounced and perhaps just detracting a little from its delineation and mineralité on the finish. The history of Smith Haut-Lafitte dates back to the 14th century, when George Smith, a Scottish wine merchant, acquired the property in the mid-18th century, giving it his name. After changing hands again in 1958, it was in 1990 that the Cathiard couple fell in love with the Chateau, purchased, and spent the next three years renovating the estate. Their constant philosophy is to make the best possible wine from each vintage to showcase the magnificent terroir. 2011 is a bit of a surprise here following the epic vintages of 2009 2010, but this is equally brilliant. The red wine blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot shows a big nose of cassis, licorice and oak, while the palate has silky and elegant tannins with a juicy texture. This is ready to drink now, but will age another 5-10 years.

Anne Parent and her sister Catherine are the 12th generation of the family running the Domaine. The Les Chaponnieres vineyard is 2.89ha lying south of the village of Pommard, above the Les Croix vineyard. The wines here have fleshy fruit, with aspicy nose, raspberry and cherry hints, together hints of licorice.

The roots of Domaine Parent date back to the 17th century. Currently the domaine is being run by the 12th generation - Anne Parent and her sister Catherine Fages-Parent. Anne is self-taught, following the lunar cycle and principles of biodynamics to express all the peculiarities of each plot. The small 1.3ha site of Les Croix Noires is located just south of Pommard village. Strong, yet elegant, this Pinot Noir is well-balanced in structure between wood/tannins and acidity.

Etienne Julien presents a high-quality Nuits-Saint-Georges with his balanced 2019 vintage! The nose reveals black fruit lard notes, violets and undeniable minerals. Spices and slightly woody notes take over as it evolves. On the palate, it has a beautiful structure and drinkability despite everything. It has a potential to be kept for 10 years.

The Le Clarence Haut-Brion is the 2nd wine of the first growth Chateau Haut-Brion. It was in 2007 that this wine was renamed Le Clarence Haut-Brion as a tribute to Clarence Dillon, who acquired the property in 1935. This blend of 73% Merlot, 16% Cabernet France and 11% Cabernet Sauvignon has fruity red fruits on the nose with a smooth, concentrated palate.This a charming, pleasant wine.

Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion Blanc (Pessac-Leognan) - a blend of 72% Semillon and 18% Sauvignon Blanc. The Semillon provides richness and acidity with the Sauvignon adding an array of citrus and stone fruits. White wine luxury - who says white wines can't age? Drink now to 2030.

Chateau Angelus in St. Emilion, Bordeaux's right bank has been in existence since 1782. Now operated by Stephanie de Bouard-Rivoal, who represents the 8th generation of the Bouard de Laforest family. Her goal is to ensure the Angelus name continues to represent excellence and timelessness. The Carillon d'Angelus is the second label of Chateau Angelus, this was first released from the 1987 vintage. This wine is a red blend of 90% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and is highly appreciated for its purity of fruit, velvety tannins and elegant finish. The high content of merlot makes it drinkable earlier in life, but can be aged for the next 8-12 years.

From the tiny appellation of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, 13 grapes are allowed in the blend, yet with grenache, syrah and mourvedre dominant. The Domaine de Cristia is a typical blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Mourvedre with a brooding, intense deep colour. The bouquet is an elegant mix of black currant, blackberries, violets, deli meats and hints of leather and pepper. The palate is well balanced with fine-grained tannins and a long, powerful finish. This wine will cellar well for the next 10-15 years.

Chateau Haut-Brion is the only first growth outside the Medoc in the Graves region, acquired in 1935 by Clarence Dillon. It is also the only winer to be both First Growth from the 1855 classification and Classified Growth of the Graves. This was the first of three estates acquired by the Dillon family, and is the oldest winegrowing property in the region. The 2016 is a red wine blend made from 56% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, and 37% Cabernet Sauvignon. Black currants, violets and plums that is full-bodied and juicy on the palate with rich tannin and structure.

The colour is a quite deep garnet-red. The first impression on the nose is of ripeness, but not to excess. Fresh fruity aromas predominate. The attack is smooth, silky, and caressing on the palate. The middle palate is fullbodied and tight-knit, going into a long aftertaste. The fruity flavours are accompanied by discreet, elegant oak. The 2016 is fresh, fruity, remarkably well-focused and well-structured.
