Equiano is a multi-award-winning premium aged rum, distinguished as the world’s first African & Caribbean blend. This exceptional rum emerges from a unique collaboration between two distilleries spanning two continents, crafting an innovative expression within the centuries-old tradition. 100% natural and devoid of spices, additives, or added sugar, Equiano derives its rich and deep flavors solely from the ex-bourbon and ex-cognac casks in which it matures tropically. Named in homage to Olaudah Equiano, a freedom fighter who found liberation through rum trade, Equiano embodies principles of equality, with 5% of company profits and $2 from each bottle sold contributing to ground-level freedom and equality projects annually. Tasting notes, curated by Equiano Co-Founder and Global Ambassador for the Rum Category, Ian Burrell, offer a sensory journey: On the nose, Equiano exudes tropical warmth, with rich dried fruits, toffee, butterscotch, and caramel nuances, leading to hints of orange peel, vanilla, and buttered wood. The palate reveals natural sweet notes from American white oak ex-bourbon casks, offering a warm toffee and butterscotch mouthfeel, accompanied by chewy raisins and brown sugar flavors. The finish, while naturally sweet with no added sugar or spices, presents a medium to sweet conclusion, accented by oak, anise, sweet pepper, and a subtle hint of bitter orange peel.
