Royal Salute, the prestigious blended whiskey brand under the stewardship of Pernod Ricard and operated by Chivas Brothers Holdings, was originally introduced in 1953 to commemorate the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. Recently, on May 17, 2023, a collection of new Royal Salute whiskey labels emerged online, unveiling an exquisite addition to the lineup: the Royal Salute 21 Year Old The Miami Polo Edition.

Tasting Notes:
Vital Stats: 43% ABV. Distilled in 2006 and bottled in 2021. Double matured in American oak and ex-oloroso casks.
Appearance: This is a light straw color. It forms a thick rim on the glass that takes a long time to form into tears.
Nose: This has the smell of a honeysuckle tree, whole oranges, and a bit of lemon oil. There is just a hint of the grain on the nose as well.

Palate: This is like drinking honey water. It is light and delicate while being full of flavor. It is certainly on the sweet side with notes of honey and star fruit. There is a brief note of cherry on the mid palate. The front and mid palate are quite clean while the finish has a bit of that sulfur taste. The finish is complemented by a light earthy spice, reminiscent of white pepper and allspice. The addition of water sees the sweetness subdued and all the flavors other than the honey are present for longer. There is just a bit of malt that wasn't there straight out of the bottle as well.

Chivas Regal 12 Year Old is a great introduction for those looking to experiment with Scotch whisky. It is aromatic with wild herbs, heather, honey and orchard fruit notes. The round and creamy palate tastes of honey and ripe apples, with vanilla, hazelnut and toffee flavours, followed by a rich and lingering finish.

Alvear Brandy Gran Reserva is one of the gems by the winery Alvear. This brandy has been aged 25 years in extremely old American oak barrels, by means of the solera system.

A blended whisky from Suntory's three distilleries: Yamazaki, Hakushu and Chita. Toki has a different composition to another Suntory blend, Hibiki, as its main components are Hakashu single malt and Chita grain whisky. It should work really well in a highball.

Producer notes: Bold and complex. Our whisky boasts luscious notes of Christmas pudding, citrus, and spice, with a dark-chocolate finish.

The jury is out on this wine from St. Emilion, whether to drink or hold. If you're looking for a Merlot dominant wine, look no further than this blend of 90% with added 10% Cabernet France for structure and concentration. As one would expect, it's soft and fleshy with plum and blackberry fruits, laced with clove, walnut, and black tea. This will still evolve over time but can be enjoyed now.

From the oldest winemaking family in Argentina, Nicolas Catena was a pioneer for high-altitude wine growing. This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec is an excellent example of ageable Argentinian wine. Deep, concentrated, bramble and blackcurrant fruit dominate.

Suntory Whisky Ao is a Japanese blended whisky produced by Suntory, one of Japan's most renowned distilleries. "Ao" means "blue" in Japanese and is meant to evoke the image of the pristine waters of Japan. After two years of drought, 2013 proved to be an excellent vintage with expressive black and red fruit in this 100% Tempranillo.

Founded in 1987, Pascal Jolivet owns 70 hectares in the Loire, with 45 hectares in Sancerre. Their 'signature Sancerre' is crafted from a blend of 50% limestone, 30% limestone clay, and 20% flint terroirs, each fermented and vinified separately in stainless steel with up to 6 months on fine lees before blending. Limestone adds minerality and finesse, limestone clay boosts fruit and richness, and flint provides structure and minerality. This organic wine features a tightly wound palate with notes of white grapefruit, green apple, fennel, and a fine slick of lees, all underscored by a stony note leading to a lengthy, subtly flinty finish. Classic, pure, and bright, it is enjoyable now and will age well.

The CASK 23 combines the signature perfume notes of FAY vineyard with the structure and dark fruit of S.L.V. Fragrant and fresh aromas of red and black currant, black tea, anise and nutmeg fill the nose. The wine has a vibrant mouthfeel with savory and velvety tannins along with blackberry and currant flavors. This is an elegant, flavorful vintage of CASK 23 with integrated oak, refined tannins and a lasting aftertaste.

Dunville’s Three Crowns Irish Whiskey is a premium vintage blend of superior aged whiskeys finished in three of the finest sherry casks.

Nose: Very gentle, floral, sweet and juicy. Orchard fruits intertwined with nutty caramel, nougat and powerful butterscotch overtones.

Palate: The initial sweetness from the malt gives way to light citrus fruits, oranges, lemon, green apples, pepper and clove. The wood spice and lovely oak tannins firm up this whiskey before the oloroso sherry casks take the final curtain.

Finish: Orchard fruits and caramels give way as subtle notes of walnut, nougat, vanilla and dried fruits come through in the soft lingering finish.

This spirit opens with a nose of exotic fruits, featuring mango, passion fruit, and fermented pineapple, with subtle citrus notes like lime in the background. The palate follows through with the fermented fruits, highlighting pineapple and mango, along with hints of guava, papaya, petrol, liquorice, vanilla, sea salt, and oak spices. The finish is long, leaving impressions of Bananas Foster, pineapple chunks, and oak.

Gerard Raphet, along with his daughter Marion, farms 12 ha of land with vineyards in Morey St. Denis, Vougeot, and Gevry-Chambertin, and most of the plots have a vine age of 60-100 years. This important, and respected appellation in Burgundy is known for delivering deeply perfumed wines with notes of plums, berries, earth and spice. The finish is long with musky perfume and spice.

Lantides Estate is a family winery that was established in 1993 with a goal to promote quality wines of Greece. Owner Lantides Panikos has 70ha of his own vineyards and grows not just international grape varieties, but local grapes like Agiorgitiko, Moschofilero, Asyrtiko and Malagouzia. Little Ark is a project dedicated to promote quality vineyards of Greece using the best indigenous varieties. This rose is made with 100% Moschofilero and has elegant aromas of strawberries, cherries, tangerine and floral nuances. The palate is rich in the mouth with just enough sweetness to highlight the cherry fruit while toffee and jasmine remain in the long finish.

Negro Amaro, a black grape grown in Puglia, the heel of Italy's boot, is often misspelled: unlike what is seen on many labels, it is two distinct words and should be written that way. Wines made with negro amaro are always dense, thick with blackberry, black cherry, licorice with clove and cocoa accents. Tenuta del Pajaru is Certified organic, using only natural yeasts and non-intervention winemaking, the wines express their sense of place. Get a mouthful of blackberry jam, spice and chocolate, pair this wine with strong cheese and hearty meat stews.

Philippe and Valerie Bassereau (4th generation) have been managing the Chateau de la Graves estate since 1990 in one of the more unknown appellations of Bordeaux: Cotes de Bourg (on the right bank opposite of Margaux). Here they specialize in the ancient Colombard grape, blended with Semillon for the white wines, and Merlot dominated reds. Hiding in a small valley east of the picturesque town of Pitlochry, Edradour is a small operation producing fruity un-peated distillate under the Edradour name, and a meaty and peaty version named Ballechin. This release from Equilibrium (aka Whisky Sponge) is a vatting of a cask of each, both matured in refill ex-sherry casks.

Margaux shows us the elegance and feminine side of Bordeaux. This second label of Chateau Brane Cantenac, a Second Growth of Bordeaux is a blend of 65% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 3% Cabernet Franc. Already silky and very promising, it expresses black fruit aromas of blackberry and fleshy cherry mixed with elegant toast, smoke, and vanilla. The tannins are refined and balanced and is absolutely in the drink window.
