A "Goldilocks wine" where everything, down to the restrained alcohol, is just right. Blackcap raspberries, dried rose petals, beeswax and a touch of Madagascar vanilla draw the nose deeper into the glass. Bright red cherry and tangerine flavors create a juicy and pleasurable sweet-tart flavor combination.

Since 2002 the vineyards have been managed organically and biodynamically. In 2010 all four vineyards were awarded full Demeter certification and in 2020 they were all also certified by BioGro. Pruning is carried out to leave desired bud numbers thus ensuring moderate controllable yields and to create an even, light penetrable canopy. Irrigation is usually necessary during the later dry summer months. Soil moisture levels are carefully monitored and water is applied only when necessary to maintain appropriate soil moisture levels. All grapes are carefully hand picked, keeping separate any quality differences within blocks due to clones, rootstocks and viticultural trials.

Once upon a time, Carmín de Peumo was your typical ripe and beefy Carmenère, but not here. This offering, harvested in late May (the equivalent of November in the Northern Hemisphere), deals tomato leaf, currant, cranberry and dried-herb aromas in front of a racy palate that's medium in weight. Spicy, leafy red-fruit flavors are oaky and come with notes of cocoa and coffee, while a dry and snappy finish is lean by previously set Carmenère standards.

Julian also believed that Italian varieties had great potential in the same place, so Sangiovese was also a possibility. Thus Syrah was planted, and later Sangiovese. 
Un Segreto (Secret in Italian) is a blend of 60% Sangiovese and 40% Syrah. It has and intense nose of blackberries, plums, and dark cherries, with hints of tobacco and earthiness. The flavours are rich and concentrated and include blackberries and blackcurrants, with notes of dark chocolate and spices.

Deep, dark, opaque purple-black color holds well to a vivid purple rim & stains the glass when swirled. The aromas are of concentrated dark-fruit. Concentrated fruit on the palate has a tight graphite nature at its core, but is lifted by good freshness. The tannins are fine, but a little drying. Alcohol seems balanced by the fruit. Lovely, juicy blackcurrant fruit emerges from the graphite on the finish – which has fair length.

The aromas are forward, with notes of dark raspberry, fruit rollup, cedar, tar, dark plum and a whiff of mesquite smoke. The flavors are palate coating, showing depth, intensity and impressive freshness, with tart acidity. There's plenty of tannic structure around it all. It's beautiful. Sean P. Sullivan

Ripe and joyous dark cherry and berry pie aromas leap from the nose of this bottling, but it's the earthy veil of loam, dust and chaparral spice that provides particular depth. This wine is 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Syrah and 8% Petit Verdot coming from Summit View, Candy Mountain and Dionysus Vineyards. Appealing aromas of freshly brewed coffee, dark cherry and barrel spice lead to full bodied flavors, where fruit and barrel intertwine. A long finish caps it off. In 2011, Daniele Delaini, Villa Calicantus’s owner, decided to quit a “not bad job” in a bank in Paris to dedicate himself completely to a small vineyard his aunt Teresa gave him years before. Villa Calicantus is the smallest winery of the Bardolino wine area on the top of one of the highest hills of the Bardolino Classico area, 2 km away from Lago di Garda. They produce between 4000 and 7000 bottles per year, depending on the weather of the year. Villa Calicantus has produced organically since 2011 and with biodynamic agriculture since 2014. Villa Calicantus is dedicated to obtaining wines with elegance, finesse and complexity, authentic expressions of the Bardolino and Lago di Garda.

Avresir comes from the oldest vines from the highest part of the hill around the villa. Because there is no Riserva category in Bardolino, Daniele uses Avresir, Riserva spelled backwards. Corvina, Rondinella, Molinara and Sangiovese are co-fermented in the same percentages that they are grown in the vineyard. The influence of the lake
