The 2020 Cos d'Estournel is composed of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon and 38% Merlot. The harvest took place September 10– 24, yielding 39 hectoliters per hectare. The alcohol weighs in at 13.46% with a pH of 3.9 and an IPT (total phenolic index) of 80. It is being aged in French oak barrels, 55% new. Deep purple-black in colour, it pops with explosive scents of ripe red and black currants, black cherry preserves and black raspberries, followed by sparks of violets, wild sage, pencil lead and clove oil, with emerging hints of iron ore and damp soil. The 2016 vintage of the Château Cos Labory is adorned with a pretty garnet-red color. Its nose is an expressive bouquet with aromas of blackberry, flower and brioche. On the palate, the attack is dense and round, the tannins are fine and quite supple releasing aromas of red fruits, bramble and strawberry.

The Château Cos Labory 2016 offers a vibrant and balanced experience, described by critics as "bold, racy, and flamboyant". Aged in 50 percent new and 50 percent old oak from Mouton itself, it has a creamy, fulfilling character. This is a wine which will certainly benefit from spending a few years in the cellar. This could be a treat and might just be a bargain too.

The 2021 d'Armailhac has turned out beautifully, bursting with attractive aromas of minty cassis and blackberries mingled with notions of pencil shavings and sweet pipe tobacco. Medium to full-bodied, ample and polished, it's supple and seamless, with a fleshy core of fruit and a licorice-inflected finish. En primeur, I compared this to a modern-day version of the estate's immensely charming 1999, and anyone who remembers the 1999 will find that the 2021 delivers just as wide a drinking window. This has an expansive mid palate that promises raspberry, redcurrant, rosemary and orange peel notes, along with pulses of minerality and a slate-textured finish. Definitely not a wine that needs to be left just for the summer months, this is a brilliant rose that delivers on expectations.

It is safe to say that Château D’Esclans is the only rosé producer to be able to achieve this style of wine with such concentration. In a blind tasting, most sommeliers and wine experts would guess it is a White Burgundy like Meursault or Chassagne-Montrachet. Approachable when young, yet a rosé which can be aged.

Aroma: Ripe red berry aromas with toasty and hazelnut notes.

Palate: Full-bodied yet elegant. Ripe pineapple and ginger notes with hints of black licorice, making for a rich and exotic palate.

Finish: Elegant, long and juicy with a suave finish.

This has crunchy and lightly chewy tannins that are slightly austere but in an elegant, classical Bordeaux way. Chewy at the end. So much energy and vibe. So complex. Probably the greatest wine ever from here. A blend of 65% cabernet sauvignon, 30% merlot, 2% cabernet franc, 2% malbec and 1% petit verdot. Best after 2028 but already a joy to taste.”

Flowers, crushed rocks, smoke, licorice, cherry blossoms and dark red pit fruits are all over the nose and palate here. On the palate, the wine is even better due to all of its silky-textured, seductive, fresh, ripe, mineral-driven fruits. There is length, complexity and freshness with a finish that leaves you wanting more. This is one of the best values in Bordeaux . It is a purchase by the case wine that you can enjoy for 15 or more years with ease. This is probably the best vintage of Dalem I have ever tasted! Drink from 2022-2037.
