En primeur, I compared this to a modern-day version of the estate's immensely charming 1999, and anyone who remembers the 1999 will find that the 2021 delivers just as wide a drinking window. This has an expansive mid palate that promises raspberry, redcurrant, rosemary and orange peel notes, along with pulses of minerality and a slate-textured finish. Definitely not a wine that needs to be left just for the summer months, this is a brilliant rose that delivers on expectations.

It is safe to say that Château D’Esclans is the only rosé producer to be able to achieve this style of wine with such concentration. In a blind tasting, most sommeliers and wine experts would guess it is a White Burgundy like Meursault or Chassagne-Montrachet. Approachable when young, yet a rosé which can be aged.

Aroma: Ripe red berry aromas with toasty and hazelnut notes.

Palate: Full-bodied yet elegant. Ripe pineapple and ginger notes with hints of black licorice, making for a rich and exotic palate.

There is length, complexity and freshness with a finish that leaves you wanting more. This is one of the best values in Bordeaux . It is a purchase by the case wine that you can enjoy for 15 or more years with ease. This is probably the best vintage of Dalem I have ever tasted! Drink from 2022-2037.

Located in the heart of the Graves, the Chateau is named after the family it belonged to until 1851. Now owned by the Quinn family, although more famous for minerally driven Bordeaux white blends, their red wines are also excellent. The current winemaker is a big believer in translation of terroir: he wants all the wines to have a sense of place. The 2014 Fieuzal is a red blend made with 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc for a ripe and fruity wine with herbal and earthy nuances, underpinned with firm, yet refined tannins and well-balanced acidity. Exellent potential for ageing.
