Neil Ellis, one of our favourite South African producers has created this Sauvignon Blanc to rival many from Pouilly-Fume in the Loire valley. Using wild yeasts and creating only a few barrels, the name Amica is derived from the Latin Amicus which can be described as a gathering of friends, sharing good food and wine around the table. Barrel fermented for complexity this Sauvignon Blanc is a thing of beauty and can most certainly be aged for several years. An outstanding wine.

If you're looking for Beaujolais Cru, look no further. Of the 10 Cru, CLS has wines from seven. Rather than sourcing the grapes from all across the Beaujolais region, each individual Cru has their own terroir and soil structure; all made with 100% Gamay with the resulting wines unique and set-apart from each other. The Fournaise vineyard of the Cote de Brouilly is located on the steepest hill of the Cru, where all the work has to be done manually, normally in very hot temperatures. The hill has an elevation of 480 m and is totally covered by 60-year old vines. The roots have to work hard to break through the blue volcanic rock. The resulting wine is powerful and it needs time to reveal its depth and minerality. The palate is full with an amazing concentration and an outstanding, complex finish.

At 600 meters above sea level, on the volcanic soils of Mount Calvarina, in the area of Lessini Durello and Soave DOC, the family has been producing wine for three generations, in an optical of synergy and harmony with nature, with the aim of interpreting and enhancing the native varieties of this area, creating a product that preserves tradition. This Soave, made with 100% garganega shows very pleasant mineral and savoury notes, which alternate with fruity-citrus hints and aromatic herbs. It is a wine with a fresh and enveloping drinkability, perfect for aperitifs and paired with fish-based dishes.

This is a beautiful wooden box with shimmery blue lettering that holds 3 different vintages - 2 each of 2008, 2011 and 2018. 

Valenciso (founded in 1998) may be young in years, but founders Luis Valentin and Carmen Enciso (who gave their surnames to the bodega) were already long in experience when they began. They had worked together for 28 years by the time they left Bodegas Palacio to start their own business. Valenciso seeks to make classically structured, subtle and elegantly fine wines using 100% Tempranillo grapes from low yielding old vines in the Rioja Alta. Winemaker Alicia Eyaralar uses exclusively French barriques, a third being new each year, to produce this terrific wine in very small quantities. In this box, there are two bottles each of 2008, 2011 and 2018, all scoring very high. Cherry deep colour, spicy nose, intense. There are some notes of leather, licorice and fountain pen ink, over a core of ripe berry fruit, with some spicy notes from the oak and a faint animal character. The palate is medium-bodied with some dusty, slightly rustic tannins and a dry finish.

Lirac Charles I, a blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre, is sourced from both the estate's vineyards and selected terroirs. It has a bright ruby color and a lively aromatic profile with notes of raspberries, currants, black cherries, licorice, and spices. On the palate, it is fruity and full-bodied, with firm yet well-integrated tannins and a long, mineral-infused finish. This wine pairs well with game birds or grilled red meat and, while ready to drink now, it can evolve beautifully with a few years of cellaring.

Founded in 1942 by Désiré Rolet, Domaine Rolet stands as an iconic producer of Jura wines. Managed by Désiré’s children Eliane, Bernard, Guy, and Pierre, the estate expanded its vineyards across four Jura appellations - Arbois, Château-Chalon, Côtes du Jura, and Etoile. Since 2018, the winery has been under the direction of Cédric Ducoté. The estate's 65 hectares of vineyards predominantly grow Chardonnay, Savagnin, Poulsard, Trousseau, and Pinot Noir grapes, all harvested by hand for their production. This particular wine has benefited from several years of bottle aging, displaying a slightly evolved character. Its color is a light garnet red at the core, fading into a brickish tinge at the rim. Aromas of wild blackcurrant, kirsch, forest floor, tobacco, and mushroom dominate the nose. The wine's fine tannins and dried sour cherry flavors are well-balanced by its prominent acidity, leading to an earthy and light finish.

Displaying hues ranging from garnet to light purple, Copper Moon Shiraz presents a captivating bouquet of plum, black cherry, and licorice. This medium-bodied wine unfolds with smoothness on the palate, offering juicy flavors of plum and cherry. As it concludes, a medley of ripe berries and a hint of sweet spice lingers on the finish, creating a delightful sensory experience. Ideal for pairing with chili, spicy sausage, and hearty winter stews, this Shiraz complements a variety of robust dishes.

This wine exudes freshness both on the nose and palate, with an abundance of crisp apple and pear flavors taking the spotlight. While it may not exhibit a wide range of complexities, its balance, intensity, and immediate drinkability more than compensate for this.

This wine presents initially with a subtle demeanor, gradually revealing delicate notes of orange blossom, honeysuckle, and lime zest. As it evolves, hints of pink grapefruit pith and classic Riesling character emerge, accompanied by a focused palate featuring green citrus, green pineapple, and just-ripe peach. This biodynamic producer has hit in two consecutive vintages. The 2011 is a bit funky at first, so you may want to decant it before serving, but once some cabbage-like aromas dissipate, the wine delivers plenty of blackberry fruit, some garrigue notes and a touch of licorice. It's full bodied and creamy in texture, with a long, silky finish.

The Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru La Toppe au Vert presents vivid red cherries and black plums on the nose, displaying focus alongside refinement and poise. A family business created in 1979, Champagne Gremillet is today managed by the founder's children, Anna and Jean-Christophe Gremillet. Around 50 embassies and consulates around the world choose Gremillet for their receptions. The house produces nearly 500,000 bottles of Champagne each year and is increasing in demand. This Champagne is made from 85% pinot noir and 15% chardonnay, coming from several terroirs and four to five different vintages, and 20% ​​Reserva wine. This is a layered yet expertly restrained and mineral-driven Chardonnay. Aromas of white flower petals, grapefruit pith and the slightest hint of toast are wrapped in ashy and chalky elements on the nose. The palate is vibrantly tight with rock and citrus peel flavors, exhibiting a brilliant acidity.

The nose displays plenty of menthol, blackberry and blackcurrant aromas. On palate, this medium-bodied wine is fresh and ripe with a long, clean, mineral and herbal finish. An incredibly food-flexible wine!

The 2013 L'Eglise Clinet has a very precise, tightly wound bouquet with limestone-tinged, brambly red berry fruit, the Merlot still very expressive and imparting comely floral scents. There is something almost Burgundy-like about the nose. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin surrounding a core of citrus-fresh, lively red fruit, silky smooth in texture, approachable in style, with an almost symmetrical finish. This was a great L'Eglise-Clinet in barrel in the context of the vintage and it remains a very persuasive wine in bottle. (NM)" (10/2016)

As always Lascombes is done in a style that brings out the more lush, flamboyant side of Margaux. In this vintage, all the elements meld together effortlessly, something that isn't always the case. Chateau Montrose is a 2nd growth in the Saint Estephe appellation of the left bank of Bordeaux. The location itself is exceptional, facing the Gironde Estuary which means the 95ha vineyard benefits from the moderating influence of this body of water during hot summers and harsh winters. This red blend is 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot and scored over 95 by many of the critics. All typical Medoc aromas and flavours of blackcurrant, licorice, pencil lead, crushed stones, warm spices and violets. Balanced and impressive, give this a decade before opening and age for the next 30+ years.

This is a red wine from the Piedmont region of Italy. Made from Nebbiolo, this wine has an intense nose with aromas of rose, dried fruit and blackberry, with notes of spice, mint, cardamom and minerals, a firm structure, a rich mouthfeel, firm tannins and a long, lingering finish.

Mature plum, vanilla, toast and toasted oak sensations lead the nose. The palate opens with juicy black cherry and plum layered with coffee, dense chocolate and bitter espresso that slightly diminish the impact of its Nebbiolo pedigree and purity. Raphet Burgundy is handmade from field to bottle, with a rhythm and method that hasn't changed in more than four generations. Pinot Noir vines at the estate are on average very old, with many surpassing 100 years. Raphet wines are a Burgundy lover's Burgundy. While the wine's colour in the glass is a delicate ruby, aromas and flavours surprise with their forceful intensity. This contrast often catches the uninitiated off guard, yet it is part of the seduction of these limited and highly sought-after wines.

This is a premium red wine that is well-suited for aging. It has a deep garnet red color and is made from grapes harvested in the hilly region of Sant'Ambrogio di Valpolicella. The wine is then fermented using the marc of classic Recioto and Amarone. The wine has a distinct aroma of plum and cooked marasca cherry, which stands out in its complex bouquet. The wine has a full robust body and a perfect balance of flavors.

Michel Mallard Le Rognet is a Grand Cru vineyard located in Ladoix-Serrigny on a small plot of 1.27 ha growing Pinot Noir vines that are between 45-55 years old. The vineyard is known for producing wines with complex flavors and aromas. The 2012 vintage of Michel Mallard Corton GC Le Rognet is generally considered to be a good year for Burgundy wines, with favorable weather conditions leading to a high-quality harvest. The wine is aged in oak barrels for approximately 18 months, which adds depth and complexity to its flavors.This 100% Pinot noir has aromas of violets, blackberries, pepper spice, and licorice. Full-bodied and rich, the palate is dense, yet velvety. This wine can age for an impressively long time.

Les Charmots is a lieu-dit in the north of the village of Pommard. The soils are clay and limestone-based and add a structure to this bolder red Burgundy. The vines have an average age of 100 years and the wines from here are among some of the best in Pommard. This 100% Pinot is expressive and charming with red berry spice notes.

For six generations, Domaine Noellat has been farming their 20ha of land. With entreprenurial spirit, the family was always looking to adapt to new technologies, while respecting the traditions handed down from one generation to another. The cellar was built in 1980 while in 2007 an ultra modern winery was erected with state of the art stainless tanks and a dedicated tasting space in the cellar. Cousins Sebastien and Sophie work closely together making strategic decisions based on the nature of each harvest. Echezeaux is considered to be one of the premium wine-growing regions of Burgundy. The 0.80ha site perhaps used to be home to Gallo-Roman ruins, and the vines now grown there have an average age of 70 years. The bouquet of this 100% Pinot noir is rich and exotic with a rich texture, fleshy tannins and a touch of black pepper and spice on the finish.

The Tollot-Beaut family is a based at Chorey-Les-Beaune with vineyards located in Beaune, Savigny, Aloxe-Corton and a small holding in Corton Charlemagne. This 100% Pinot Noir has ripe black cherry, black currant, violet and mineral notes. The palate is dense, yet elegant with ripe fruit and fine tannins. A consistently underrated site from a wonderful domaine.

This opulent wine has a broad and balanced mid-palate, notes of vanilla and blueberry, a dried floral character and chalky tannins. Anise and cherry lift the palate to a beautiful, lingering finish. In both aromatics and palate, this is an elegant vintage worthy of cellaring for years to come.

These are not the usual Special Bins that Penfolds releases every so often but this is a new wine that will be in regular production, although not every vintage. 

Crushed blackberry meets chocolate and vanilla, even on the nose generosity and concentration are apparent right away. The first sip is full-on: bold, concentrated tannins, fine freshness that highlights the wonderfully generous, bold, big, muscular fruit. It is that delicious and pervasive acidity that allows every nuance to show: that pure flavour of wild blueberry, that note of cocoa powder, that powdery vanilla and nutmeg-scented texture, those fine-grained but ripe tannins with both their rigour and their juiciness. This is brooding, dark, and profound and for now, it only gives us an idea of what will be possible. A wonderful new addition to the range. Seamless and balanced.
