Caymus Special Selection is always a selection of the best barrels that play to a style constantly pushing the limits of richness and concentration, in this case, clocking in at 16% alcohol. The nose is slightly cooked and raisiny with plenty of cassis, chocolate, and coffee spilling onto the palate. Blackberry jam, pipe tobacco and brown spices line a richly dark, dense tannin finish. It is only made in the best years, but I wouldn’t mind if this was throttled back a bit.

A concentrated floral character to this bottling emerges more redolently as the wine breathes, showing lavender, violet, cherry and wild berry on the nose. The palate is bold but silky, offering dark berry and cranberry as well as slightly bitter touches of sagebrush

The Pym-Rae reveals a deep garnet-purple color and a slightly reticent, slowly emerging nose of freshly crushed blackcurrants, ripe blackberries and wild blueberries with suggestions of garrigue, red currant jelly, mossy tree bark and truffles plus wafts of bouquet garni and Sichuan pepper.

The SLV has generous dark fruit aromas of black currant, plum, candied fig and cocoa dust. The palate is dense, yet polished with tannins that meld with layers of dark fruit, fig and violet. The structure and tannins of this wine point to its ageability. Lay this one down for a few years and drink from 2026-2039. This too scored high - 99 points from Wine Enthusiast. Deep garnet-purple in colour, the Cabernet Sauvignon Estate needs a lot of swirling and coaxing to unlock notions of blackcurrant pastilles, warm black plums and mulberries, plus hints of black olives, tilled soil, mossy tree bark and violets with emerging baker's chocolate and star anise hints. Full-bodied, rich, concentrated and with impeccable poise, it has beautifully ripe, grainy tannins and just enough freshness, finishing epically long and earthy.

Gorgeous blackberry and currant aromas with hints of herbs. Wonderfully varietal character. Full-bodied with tannins that frame the wine so nicely and create a long, lightly chewy finish. Fantastic wine.
