Without a doubt, Chateau Troplong Mondot has one of the most enviable and unique terroirs on the St. Emilion appellation on Bordeaux's Right Bank. Specifically located on the highest point of Saint-Emilion's famous limestone plateau, the 43ha estate has ideal soils and exposure. The resulting wines combine strength and elegance, complexity and precision. The 2019 Troplong Mondot is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon with attractive aromas of blackberry liqueur, blueberries, licorice, chocolate, and spice. With mouth-filling, juicy, and concentrated textures and flavours, this 2019 received a perfect score of 100 from Wine Enthusiast. Best from 2027-2040.

Winemaker Notes

A wine of good density ruby red, with brown, mahogany, biscuit hints. The rim is fairly thick and the legs are fine, clear, abundant and regular. At once expressive, forthright and complex. There are notes of all families of fragrance: fruit, flowers, and spices. The attack is forthright, round and suave, soothing even. The intense aromas initially recall the complexity of the nose. There is leather and lightly charred wood, and roasted notes. The beauty of the wine is revealed by its elegance rather than its full-flavor. The wine has an attractive aromatic range with a finish of remarkable elegance.

Critic tasting note: "Although billed as a joven, this Tequila is blended with a touch of añejo. The end result is extraordinarily smooth, with a very sweet, fruity, almost wine-like nose but a bold, pure peppery flavor that finishes cleanly. Tomoe Gozen, a legendary female samurai from 13th century Japan, who led troops into battle armed with a naginata and kaiken, lends her name to a Japanese whisky crafted at the Yamanashi Prefecture Distillery. Aged for 8 years in Mizunara oak barrels, this whisky combines grain and malt whisky to create a profile characterized by warm, fruity, and vanilla notes, complemented by hints of oak, red apple, coconut, and marzipan flavors. The experience culminates in a medium-length finish, embodying the spirit of this revered warrior.

A legend throughout the entire Cote-d'Or, Henri de Villamont can be easily spotted from miles around due to its famous Guettes Tower and beautiful manor house, which has drawn wine lovers on a Burgundy pilgrimage for many decades. Located in the heart of one of the region's prettiest villages, Savigny les Beaune, Henri de Villamont is a magical place, surrounded by high walls and scores of Premier Cru vineyards. The property is owned by a major Swiss family company who have been in the wine business for over 20 years. A shy nose that very slowly releases precise red berries. Eventually this rounds in the mouth, has a hint of salt too. This has decently understated concentration and real grand cru complexity here. Understated, sometimes subtle, but excellent.

This is the inaugural release of this wine, very different in style from the Bin 707 Cabernet, coming from a single district and aged in French, not American, oak. The fruit is from two prized blocks of Penfolds' own vineyards, and is aged for 14 months in new French oak hogsheads. At first it is quite closed, but there's a delicate, almost floral and mint leaf edge here, then a rush of cassis begins to fill in. The oak adds a smoky incense note. The palate has a really firm backbone, the tight, powerful tannins framing really juicy fruit that bursts onto the mid-palate with sweet blackcurrant. Savoury and fresh on the finish, this is concentrated but long and elegant too.

Chateau Haut Bailly is one of the most loved and most prestigious wine estates in all of Bordeaux. This Cru Classe of Graves has been owned by the Wilmers familiy since 1998, even though it has been in existence since 1530 and passed down the Bailly family line. With the investment made by the Wilmers family, the winery was custom built to a contemporary building, which allows them to carry out precision work in optimal conditions- that was debuted with the 2021 vintage. This 2019 is a red blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 4% Cabernet France and 4% Petit Verdot. The aroma is elegant and complex with blackcurrants, earth, cigar box and pencil shavings with full body, ripe tannins and lively acids. This vintage received scores of 96+ from many critics.

Nose: Aromas of ripe red apples, citrus zest, and hints of brioche.

Taste: Crisp and refreshing with flavors of green apple, lemon, and a touch of pear.

It's a collector's item, celebrating both the artistry of Hennessy's cognac-making tradition and the legacy of the NBA.

Polished and well-structured red with a medium body and firm but creamy and broad tannins. Perfumed already, with sandalwood, blackberry and currant character. Crushed stones. Tea leaves, too. Firm and solid to the end. Very solid for the vintage. 59% cabernet sauvignon, 28% merlot, 10% cabernet franc, 1.5% carmenere and 1.5% petit verdot.

A blend of 44.7% Merlot and 55.3% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2020 La Chapelle de la Mission Haut-Brion has an alcohol of 14.3%. It rolls effortlessly out of the glass with seducing notes of warm black plums, black cherry compote and blackberry pie, plus suggestions of lavender, crushed rocks and underbrush with a hint of sassafras. The medium bodied palate is delicately played and refreshing, offering lots of soft spoken black fruit and earthy layers with a soft texture and seamless acidity, finishing with a spicy kick.

Chocolate shavings and smoked coffee bean on the nose, it's a vintage where you can't get away from the tannins, but here they have sinew and juice, like the best translation of the tannins in the year. This has a real purity of fruit (very low SO2 addition at Palmer) and the gourmet touch you want in Alter Ego. 45% of overall production. 3.73pH. Survived mildew better than in 2018 because of my experience in dealing with the conditions. August 15 to 29 for the harvest.

The nose reveals sweet spice and caramel with a hint of butterscotch, offering a long, pleasant aroma. The palate presents a warm rush of spice, robust caramel, and cream, melting into passion fruit and spicy citrus notes. The finish is long and satisfying, with lingering caramel and cream. Batch #12 is bottled at 115.8 proof (57.9% ABV).

Though it was a very dry year, this vintage still managed to keep its impressive elegance. Fuenteseca Tequila presents the mastery of agave cultivation and tequila distillation using agave cultivated in various soil types, distilled in assorted still types, and rested in an array of vessels, be they of stainless steel or a collection of wooden casks from around the world… harmonizing to create incomparable spirits in a series of limited bottlings.

62% of this expression’s tequila was column-distilled, then aged in European barrels that were previously used to age wine. 38% of the tequila in this lot was distilled in an Alembic pot still, then aged in French Oak barrels. The result is a smooth, rich, and complex flavour profile.

In 1854, Hiram Walker, an American entrepreneur with interests in the flour and grain industry, ventured into whisky production in Detroit. At the time, many grain merchants and millers dabbled in whisky production as a means of utilizing surplus grain and milling by-products. However, with Michigan's burgeoning temperance movement threatening prohibition, Walker relocated his distillery across the Detroit River to Windsor, Ontario in 1858. To differentiate his Canadian-produced whisky from American counterparts and to denote its higher quality, Walker branded his product "Canadian Club." This whisky boasts a nose redolent of vanillans, with subtle notes of crystallized sugar and fresh fruit. On the palate, it reveals a rich complexity, showcasing stone fruits like plum and dried apricot, with oak undertones that are well-balanced despite its aging. The finish is long and harmonious, making it a standout whisky.

Honey, vanilla, peppercorn, Golden Delicious apples, macadamia nut, green banana, and clove-spiked orange. The flavors are bright with green apple, banana, vanilla, and citrus, developing a delicious creaminess to support the pot still spices. The creaminess really crowns this older whiskey as something special, with the bourbon wood playing a greater role than in younger, jammier Redbreasts. The finish is wonderfully long and warming, with spice, tangy orange, and oak.

One of the original producers that grows Trebbiano Abruzzese, one of the few quality grapes of the Trebbiano group. There is not much of this exported and even fewer bottles of the Montepulciano. Francesco Valentini and his son are the only humans allowed in the cellar as Francesco never wants to introduce foreign microbes or yeasts to interfere with the ageing of the wine. These are some of the most ageable white wines in the world and in fact, could be considered “unicorns” as they are hard to find here in Canada.  Truly collectible.
