Fuenteseca Tequila presents the mastery of agave cultivation and tequila distillation using agave cultivated in various soil types, distilled in assorted still types, and rested in an array of vessels, be they of stainless steel or a collection of wooden casks from around the world… harmonizing to create incomparable spirits in a series of limited bottlings.

Three-quarters of the bottling made in a double-copper column still with removed plates to achieve a lower distillation proof and the remaining quarter made in an alembic pot still. Half of the run was then stored in American white oak previously used to age California
red wine, and the remaining half barreled in used dark French Oak. The casks were then stored for 7 years at 3,800' elevation in a cool-climate subterranean barrel room.

The tequila offers spicy sweet oak, caramel, vanilla, with hints of black pepper, apricots, and baking spices, culminating in a spicy-sweet extra añejo finish with pronounced oak and a sweet dry aftertaste.

Matured in first-fill sherry and bourbon casks as well as refill casks. Marvelously rustic on the nose, with aromas of dried forest leaves and bramble, lemon, vanilla, peach, and light sherry soapiness. Honeyed texture and flavor on the palate, pleasantly bright with honey, lemon tea, apricot and peach tart, which continues to a smooth and honeyed finish with notes of cinnamon, marmalade, and sliced orange. Delicious, straightforward, and enjoyable.

It’s a brave person who tries to persuade a malt like Lagavulin to go into a different direction. Indeed, even PX casks, from the sweetest fortified wine of all, can’t fully obscure the distillery’s character, just give it a raisined coating. The creosote turns to tar and licorice, while there’s Syrah-like sootiness, and damson. This release is slightly less sweet than in the past and is the better for it, though I still prefer my Lagavulin relatively ‘naked.’

This Reposado is born from estate-grown agave in the Highlands of Jalisco, and produced at Distileria El Ranchito, with no additives in order to let the tequila profile and terroir shine through.

While the nose showcases primarily grain aromas, including cracked corn and peanut shell, it also has notes of white pepper, dark cherries, brown sugar, and Hershey’s chocolate syrup—a harbinger of things to come. Koya is a range of Chinese brandies produced at a state- of-the-art chateau, situated in the Shandong province, near the port of Yantai. The VSOP expression has been aged for six years, and it’s very floral and fruity in style, with a lovely syrupy texture. It offers notes of candied apricot, quince, nougat, raisins, vanilla, orange zest and tropical fruit.
