“Upfront and instantly so welcoming and friendly and fun, bright, lively, full on acidity kicks off the expression – so lifted with the focus on the pure fruit. Salty undercurrent that gives such an incredible contrast to the ripe strawberry fruit. But this is also lacking no richness – it’s got muscles, power, concentration and such capacity to age. Fabulous. 2% Petit Verdot completes the blend.”

The nose of this whisky evokes a maritime atmosphere, reminiscent of a beach bonfire with dry seaweed, followed by deeper notes of saltiness and marine elements, all underpinned by the scent of fresh linen. On the palate, it offers a smooth and oily texture, with a delightful sweetness accompanied by smoky and spicy notes, reminiscent of a fruit orchard enveloped in smoke and sea mist. The taste culminates in a fine balance of saltiness and spiciness, leading to a powerful chili pepper sensation upon swallowing. When diluted, the sweetness and saltiness become more pronounced. The finish is long-lasting and lightly smoky, with a lingering warmth from the spices.

The nose is a light lunch on a rocky beach, where the dusty stones contrast with the sanguinity of bresaola and the richness of sweet chili jam. The jam spreads onto the palate, but the meatiness doesn't go anywhere either, before a crackle of black pepper sets up a lingering finish.

Latitude is 100% Côte des Blancs Chardonnay from vineyards on the southern side of Vertus. These vineyards are on roughly the same latitude, hence the name, which also hints at the breadth of texture that the wines from these sites (having more clay in the soil) tend to offer up.

Tasting Note
Delicate golden color with soft green glints. Intense nose with tremendous aromatic richness. Initial notes of citrus zest are followed by lemon tart, and then toasted notes reminiscent of freshly baked brioche. The palate offers mandarin zest and candied orange, enlivened by a touch of star anise which underscores the wine's aromatic freshness. Dense and rich, the palate has good length with a pleasant hint of bitterness on the finish.
It is only in Sauternes that botrytis can develop, giving Rieussec its unique richness. A touch straight but lovely muscular edge without the heft. Juicy, fun, clean, pure. Balanced. Savoury. Great job controlling the extraction – tannins are there but this is sapid too.
