Medium golden yellow, silver reflections. Nuances of yellow apple, delicate pineapple, fine citrus zest, mineral touch. Medium complexity, white fruit, fine acid structure, subtle extract sweetness in the finish, well balanced, already developed and easy to drink, subtle floral honey in the aftertaste.

Friuli-Venezia Giulia is one of the smallest regions in Italy, yet also one of the mightiest. With a plethora of indigenous grape varieties not grown outside of the region, and even fewer producers that are embracing them, Zidarich is truly one of the best.

There are many “malvasia” named grapes within Italy, with some more quality than others. One of the best Malvasia grapes is Istriana, grown in the Friuli region as well as neighbouring Slovenia. Benjamin Zidarich practices biodynamic viticulture, picking grapes and bottling wine according to the phases of the moon. He will tell you that the grapes are grown by the sun and the earth, and the wine is grown by the moon.  The nose has notes of white peaches, oriental mixed spices, mineral, and stony notes. Maceration on the skins will give the wine slight tannins that overlay crunchy stone fruits, savoury herbs, and crushed stony minerality. 

The Prulke is a white wine that is a blend of 60% Sauvignon, 20% Vitovska, 20% Malvasia Istriana, the last two native grapes of the region. The name Prulke refers to the land where the grapes are grown; directly below Prepotto, the town where Zidarich was born and the location of the winery.

Benjamin Zidarich was born and raised in the Carso area of Friuli Venezia-Giulia. The land is in his blood and his great passion for his home translates into making wines that reflect the terroir. Terrano is one of the few red grapes of the Carso region, and much rarer than its Tazzelenghe or Schioppettino counterparts. Yet, the quality is unmistakable as the grape expresses the terroir very well. In fact, the grape name means “red earth” due to the soil it’s grown in. There is a certain Barbera-like quality to the crunchy, earth-tinged red fruits and the bright, zingy acidity of the wine, yet there is more finesse and purity. Fresh herbs and red licorice on the palate add complexity, and the concentration is surprising given its exceedingly modest alcohol level, typically never exceeding 12.5% alcohol. A unique wine, but well suited to the North American palate. 

Vitovska is a native grape only found in the Friuli Venezia-Giulia region in northeast Italy. And within the region, it is only grown in Friuli Carso where it loves the iron rich soils which produce wines of incredible minerality.

Born in Prepotto, Benjamin Zidarich's Zidarich winery fully represents the love for the Carso. The result is his wines, strongly based on the characteristics of the vine and the territory. Zidarich pay the utmost attention to the balance of the development of the vines, with maximum respect for naturalness as well as its natural wines. Vitovska is a white grape indigenous to Carso and grows nowhere else in Italy. This could be considered an "orange wine" due to skin contact during fermentation. This is a white wine with tannins and has a "grip" of oranges, rose petal and crushed rock. Lovely structure with a saline tang on the finish. A rare, unique wine indeed.

Benriach The Smoky Ten is a 10-year-old Speyside single malt Scotch whisky that showcases the distillery's tradition of using Highland peat, offering a distinct "sweet and smoky" profile. Launched as part of the core range in 2020, this expression is designed to be an accessible, fruit-forward, and lightly peated alternative to intense Islay whiskies.

A big Benriach, taking the distillery's fruity spirit and adding layers of rich and dark flavour to it. Aged for 12 years in bourbon, sherry and port casks, it's a spicy dram with loads of dried fruit and soft spice.

Benromach 21 Years Old is a,43% ABV, single malt Scotch whisky from Speyside, matured in first-fill sherry and bourbon casks. It features a classic, subtle, soft smoky profile, offering notes of sweet Sherry, Seville orange, raspberry, and spices. It is known for a creamy, complex taste of charred oak and dark fruits.

The 2022-release of Benromach 40 Year Old has been meticulously matured in sherry casks, resulting in a complex array of aromas. Scents of cinnamon, ginger, Seville orange, roasted hazelnut, and stewed red berries captivate the senses. On the palate, flavors of Morello cherries, baked apple, liquorice, dark chocolate, fruit cake, and black pepper unfold, with hints of dark berries and rich oak lingering in the finish.

The second batch of the 2022-release Benromach 40 Year Old has been carefully matured in sherry casks, resulting in a captivating array of aromas. Scents of cinnamon, ginger, Seville orange, roasted hazelnut, and stewed red berries entice the senses. On the palate, flavors of Morello cherries, baked apple, liquorice, dark chocolate, fruit cake, and black pepper emerge, with hints of dark berries and rich oak lingering in the finish.

This noble blend of selected Friulian red grapes is aged in French oak barriques within the traditional cellars of the Tosolini Family. The oak casks are toasted with "Kentucky" tobacco leaves, creating a deep and intense smoked Grappa. The result is a peated taste reminiscent of a single malt-aged whiskey, featuring harmonious spicy notes and a light smoke finish.

This vineyard designate has distinctive and palate-penetrating pine needle accents. It's tight and focused, mixing cranberry and tart raspberry fruit with a light suggestion of truffly umami. The balance and complexity argue for further bottle age. It wraps up with well-ripened tannins that add touches of black olive and black tea. Paul Gregutt

Beringer Private Reserve represents the pinnacle of the portfolio. Former Chief Winemakers Myron Nightingale and Ed Sbragia created the Private Reserve program in 1977 with the goal of crafting Napa's finest Cabernet Sauvignon.

This blend contains a high proportion of Sémillon alongside Sauvignon Gris. It is a tangy, orange zest-flavored wine, with ample acidity as well as ripe apricot and spice flavors. It's a wine to drink from 2019.

A crisp, fruity, yet dry wine made with a blend of syrah, grenache and cinsault. It has bright acidity and light texture. Drink now.

This is rich in cask characters, with baked orange, pronounced nutmeg notes, mace, peppercorn, and petrichor. The opening flavors of dark orange and syrupy caramel swerve headlong into pepper, root ginger, allspice, and nippy clove. Despite appearances, this is not awash with sherry-dominated fruitiness, but the finish is long, with spice-led dried fruits.

If you're looking for Beaujolais Cru, look no further. Of the 10 Cru, CLS has wines from seven. Rather than sourcing the grapes from all across the Beaujolais region, each individual Cru has their own terroir and soil structure; all made with 100% Gamay with the resulting wines unique and set-apart from each other. Ths Saint-Amour Esprit de Séduction (the most northern Cru) displays an intriguing deep-ruby colour. The palate is round and balanced with seductive and aromatic black berries. A beautiful bouquet of fruit with complimentary spices.

Nose: The nose of Bertrand Senecourt Beau Joie Special Cuvee Brut is elegant and inviting, with delicate aromas of fresh green apples, citrus zest, and hints of toasted brioche.

Taste: On the palate, this champagne showcases a lively and crisp character, with flavors of ripe pear, lemon curd, and a touch of honey. The fruitiness is well-balanced by a subtle mineral note, adding complexity and depth to the overall taste.

Palate: The palate of Beau Joie Special Cuvee Brut is refreshing and vibrant, with a fine mousse that dances on the tongue. It finishes with a lingering, zesty acidity and a touch of almond, leaving a clean and invigorating sensation.

The aroma of this wine is rich with succulent dark berries, plums, and mulberries, enticingly accompanied by deeper notes of cinnamon, clove, and vanilla. On the palate, it showcases a robust and full-bodied character, with firm yet smooth tannins leading to a long and satisfying finish, featuring hints of woodsmoke and sweet spice.

The 2019 Chablis Vaudésir Grand Cru has a bit of SO2 reduction on the nose, though this gradually blows away. It doesn't reveal much, and I find others convey more personality. The palate is well balanced with a fine lime and orange pith entry and good weight, yet it needs more detail and mineralité towards what feels like a rather conservative finish.
