The history of Smith Haut-Lafitte dates back to the 14th century, when George Smith, a Scottish wine merchant, acquired the property in the mid-18th century, giving it his name. After changing hands again in 1958, it was in 1990 that the Cathiard couple fell in love with the Chateau, purchased, and spent the next three years renovating the estate. Their constant philosophy is to make the best possible wine from each vintage to showcase the magnificent terroir. 2011 is a bit of a surprise here following the epic vintages of 2009 2010, but this is equally brilliant. The red wine blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot shows a big nose of cassis, licorice and oak, while the palate has silky and elegant tannins with a juicy texture. This is ready to drink now, but will age another 5-10 years.

This Syrah, crafted from the SH99 Syrah clone of the 'Karibib Vineyard' in the Polkadraai Hills, is a masterpiece for Syrah enthusiasts. With only the Syrah clone and a touch of sulfur, this wine embodies the essence of its vineyard. Hand-harvested fruit was fermented naturally in a concrete fermenter with skins and stems for 10 days, then aged in a 15hL concrete egg for 10 months with gross lees intact. Bottled without fining or filtration and minimal sulfur, it boasts a nose of red and black berries, rose, fynbos, and white pepper. Three generations of winemaking in the Valdobbiadene hills, they farm organically and sustainably. "Particella" refers to Parcel and allows the family to showcase fruit from different "rive", obtained from the steepest and most suitable vineyards with grapes from a single municipality, to enhance the characteristics and showcase the terroir. Elegant perlage with a creamy foam, yet high acidity and minerality. Ripe white peaches with mineral and floral notes. Fascinating!

From Bordeaux winemaker Sabine Jaren, this gin is distilled from Sauvignon Blanc and other grapes, and puts fruity sweetness front and center, reading more like a brandy than a traditional gin. Candied grape and a hint of dark fruit mingles with hints of lime and ginger heat, leading into a floral exhale. The botanical mix includes blackcurrant buds, grapefruit and violet.

This limited-edition gin is crafted from Sauvignon Blanc grapes and aged for six months in barrels formerly used for white wine, specifically Pessac Leognan and Graves. Sovetskoe Shampanskoye Semi-Sweet is a sparkling wine from Lithuania known for its light body, refreshing quality, and balanced, noticeable sweetness. It is often made from a blend of local grapes, with some varieties also using Muscat, which gives it a fruity aroma with notes of peaches, apricots, and orange blossoms. It's typically produced using the Charmat method, preserving its fresh character and lively effervescence.

This is a blend of Pinot Auxerrois and Pinot Blanc. A floral note of summer blossom accompanies fresh notes of green and yellow apple on this wine's nose. The palate adds creaminess, presenting a harmonious, fruity, elegant and light body with a dry finish. It is a lovely aperitif.

From one of the "Famiglia di Amarone" this light, refreshing Valpolicella Classico shows tart strawberries, cranberries and fresh earth and wild herbs on the nose while tart red fruits dominate the core of the palate with hints of sweet tobacco, cherrywood and dried herbs on the savory and vibrant finish. These light-bodied wines are on trend with lower alcohol and can be chilled for optimum enjoyment.

A mix of American and Spanish oak casks was used to mature this addition to the core range. A big blast of orchard and tropical fruits characterizes the early nose, along with honey, vanilla, and toffee. The palate also majors in fruit, this time principally oranges, plus caramel, cinnamon, milk chocolate, and lots of vanilla. The finish is quite short, with banana and ginger.

The palate is dense and concentrated with moderate extraction, grainy tannin, layers of spice, elegant dark fruit and some meaty notes. Long and fleshy finish, digest and rounded yet with power and persistence, good!
